Well, I just pulled the head off and OMFG. Every single exhaust valve was destroyed. The number 1 and 4 pistons are nicked and have peices of valve welded to them. Soooo, I get to rebuild not only the top end but the bottom end as well.
This is nice. I'll have some pictures up in the hour.

damn what did you do hahaha
probaly screwed up the timing with he put the timing chain back on.

This happened about 5 months ago before I went overseas. I was just going to pull the head off and see what the damage was. I bought a new top end. Now it looks like I need a new bottom end also.
Where are some good places to get the stock size pistons. I was strolling through the FAQ and saw that there are only 0.20 bored over pistons for sale.
Any help on where to get them would be great.
As of right now, I'm looking at putting stock ones back in.

Welcome home Home A.15!!!
Need to find me a Quote...
Thanks man... So it only costs, $15 a cylinder? Hmm, I'm gonna have to look around.
<img src="http://www.j-body.org/registry/americanred/deplysig.gif">
if your engine is already out of the car there is not excuse not to get a slight bore and honed, especially since you will want the machine shop to check the deck of the block to make sure everythign is straight ect.. if its all apart you might as well do it right once
So true. I'm going to pick up a Ford Ranger so I can not worry about my car and getting it back on the road. Well, now comes the fun. An engine rebuild.

wheres the pics damn it!!
Crap I forgot....
Give me a sec.

The pics are coming but he was lazy and didn't post them last night. We were up till 2AM working on pulling it all apart. The pics will be up here in a little while!
Every one of the exhaust valves is broken off and laying in the Cyls... Man he jacked that motor up!!!
And remember kids....
This is why getting your timing right is very important.
<img src="http://www.j-body.org/registry/americanred/deplysig.gif">
wow looks like you did a number on them thats for sure. Your timing must of been way off, at least it deminstrates just how important the timing is on these engines. Stupid interference engines

Yep, thats the truth...
Well, as for the rebuild... I almost have the block torn down completely. What a PITA! But, I'm going to try to build the engine up so I can do whatever I want to do to it in the future. As of right now I have the following waiting for the install.
P&P head with stainless valves and copper guides. Cylinder heads look diffrent than the 2.4L. Looks like there is more material between the valves.
Adj. FPR
LO Manifold, but I want a HO manifold if anybody has one.
Brand new secret cams with carriers.
Port Matched 2.3L (Not sure on the engine) header. Noticable diffrence from the 2.4L one.
2.3L HO throttle body
NOw as for the rest of the stuff. I'm going to get my cylinders honed out .020 so that they will except some performance pistons that I haven't even researched yet.
I want to get my crank cryo'd but I can't find any place that does that around Abilene.
Any other ideas on what to do with the engine ripped apart?
<img src="http://www.j-body.org/registry/americanred/deplysig.gif">
Oh. has anybody else noticed how the auto tranny is bigger than the dang engine? THe Torque converter was heavy as hell. The Balance shaft assembly was heavy as hell, and the Tranny was heave as hell. No wonder 5 speeds are quicker. Thats a alot of weight.
But anyway... What does removing the balance shafts do other than make the engine shake more? And also, what would I gain by stroking the engine to 2.5L?

OH and one more thing...
I thought Automatics didn't have flywheels. There was something that looked like a flywheel behind the torque converter. What is the name for that in an automatic or did I just get bad info.
<img src="http://www.j-body.org/registry/americanred/deplysig.gif">
Try Ed's Machine shop there in Abilene. He does alot of race engine stuff. He MAY be able to at least get you some info about doin' the Cryo thing for the crank.

Need to find me a Quote...
its not a flywheel its a "flexplate" something has to conect thr torque converter to the crank..
also much respect for you for admiting you timed it wrong and @!#$ it up, most people would try to deny it
Eh, I screwed it up. I know I did. Who am I gonna blame it on. My dog?
<img src="http://www.j-body.org/registry/americanred/deplysig.gif">
I'll look him up. Thanks for letting me know that.
