Hey guys I have a 99 2200 with a set of stainless steel OBX headers and all the other full exshaust trimmings (high flow cat, cat back, 2.25 piping) I was just searching out stuff on the internet and I found header wrap on some of these performance sites, summit racing for example. What are your thoughs on this stuff, does it bear any performance gains by keeping the exshaust gases hotter as they claim? Just looking for some opinions, would it be a good idea, is it kinda gimmicky or a waste on our cars etc...
i'm guessing this header doesnt have a ceramic coating. The wrap will reduce the temperature leaving the motor. For gain, It wont be noticable, but it is a good thing to have if you have a lot of wires around that area, it will keep them from melting.
in some cases it will destroy a header
and it voids the warrenty on pacesetters ( i know you dont have theirs) as well as other companies
the wrap cause headers to do weird things , and along with keeping moisture in , cause severe warping
It Voids the warrenty on ALL headers.
Fact 1:
“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely
true.
header wrap does provide a very small increase in performance. also note that it keeps more heat in the metal of the header itself, which leads to a much shorter life span due to heat fatigue. warping and cracking are the most common problems. if you plan on replacing the header frequently, maybe once a year or so, use the wrap...if you want the header to have a nice long life, stay away from it.
