i was just wondering if i can remove the old water temp sender for the cars and replace it with a mechanical autometer one without screwing up the computer
the computer has to know the temp of the motor
you would have to make a T of some kind in order to use both temp sensors
Back from the dead..
Does anybody know if you can just tap the yellow wire for the temp sensor on the side of the 2.4 head to get a reading?

You'll need what's known as a hot water box. Summit & Jegs carry them, It goes in-line on the heater hose and you can put your mech temp gauge probe in it for a reading.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Slowolej had told me before that you probably can't. You could just T off of the coolant sensor passage in the plastic water outlet and put another sensor in there. I have a metal Quad4 outlet, but with it T-ed it still reads the correct temperature (from both sensors). I believe it is 3/4" NPT.
