Cams from Crane
Tuesday, March 01, 2005 7:46 PM
I recently purchased blank cams from GM Performance for my ECOTEC S/C. I sent them down to Crane cams to have them cut. This is the specs.

Intake 201 degree duration 440 degree lift
Exhaust 197 degree duration 428 degree lift.

I know alot of you guys have bought cams from different places and companies. I'm not sure if this is a good cut or not. Please if ya know what your talking about with cams give me a heads up on your opinons. David Maxwell at Crane Cams is who is taking care of these for me. He heads up the Sport Compact dept. down there. They took a week to do some research before they cut them. They'll be done this week. He says it should be good for a 17-20HP gain and 25LBS of TQ. What do ya think?

What are the rest of the specs? LSA, etc... Kind of hard to tell how good a cam will be with just the lift and duration, is that duration @.050 or advertised, etc...

yeah I need more specs. I do like that you kept the duration around 200 though.

The full spec sheet will be on the cam card that came in the box with your cams. it will also list the open/close points of the lobes in degree's to...

I think that those cams will prolly need extensive modification of your motor (cam housing, valve spring) and you should know that before getting into that. From my knowledge, Crane cam are a lot into very high performance, so you could be getting cams that are not very good for street application.

As an example 2 of my friends got Crane cam in their motor. 1 got them in a neon with 2.4l NA(breeze motor) that run 12,5 without nitrous, the other one had them in a 2.8l fiero formula.( no time because i never had the $ to get proper header done but it hauled a lot at about 6k rpm even with the stock manifold getting glowing red) They have about the same problems with the idle being very rough.

If this is not a problem i wish you good luck and i'm sure that you'll have the bang for the buck you are looking for...

No offence, but you guys shouldn't post anything unless you know what you are talking about.
LSA??
They are two separate cams.
200D at .050" (thats what it is) is a pretty mild cam for your motor, but it should work fine with the stock ECU. The lift looks fairly generous. Not a bad cam, but mild, for sure. You should be happy with it.
