i was wondering becasue i want to get a new muffler. i know i can go ask a muffler shop but i don't have time. I have a 2000 pontiac sunfire se
yeah im pretty sure its 2 inches also
don't mean to hijack the thread but quick question.
should i go 40 series or 50 series flowmaster muffler on my 02 sunfire??? guy at exhaust shop said 40 because you really wont be able to hear the flowmaster sound with 50. this will be cat back 2 1/4"
One more question,
does the stock 02 sunfire catalytic converter have a built in O2 sensor?
I thought the stock size was a little smaller than 2", i could be wrong, but i thought i have heard of people upgrade to 2"

It's just after the cat.
I personally don't like the sound of flowmaster mufflers on 4 cyls but I've never heard a flowmaster on a cavi. The 40

so when i am looking for a new muffler some mufflers say 2.25 or 2.5 inch inlet then i would want to get the one that says 2.25 because it would slide over the factory pipe. right or wrong which one should i buy?
I thought it was 1.75?

I heard that The stock cat has this sensor that plugs into it and if I were to buy a magnaflow hi flow cat that is not car specific, I would set off my engine light and it could do damage....
He wants to sell me a semi high flow cat that has the 02 sensor plug "I need"
I really need some clarification

most likely welding will be done. an exhaust shop would use a 2" to whatever the muffler size is transition pipe or something of the sort so you could get 2 1/2 if you really wanted it
1 7/8" on the head pipe, cat and back are 2".
I have a magnaflow/carsound hi flo cat and I have no probs w cel's

you can get what ever size.. a muffler shop can just use this pip..... crap i cant remember the name right now ahaha.... but say you get a muffler with 2.5" inlet and your pipe is only 2".. they can still attach it on there so if you plan on ever going with a 2.5" cat back then it will save you from buying another muffler...
if you find a muffler you want it buy it.when i got my muffler it was on stock exhaust. If you don't want to get it welded all you have to do is buy a step pipe. They are about 5 or 6 inches long and have one size opening on one side and another size on the other Example 1.75" on one side and 3" on the other. They sell them at Autozone.
