Ok where to start, I see other stock automatic Z24 running a low 16 or a high 15 and their cars are stock just like mine, and i didnt run a low 16 i hit a 16.4. I was talking to a girl with a Z and she told me her worse time was a 16.4 on a stock auto. 96 cavy her best was 16......
and for all the people that say automatic is better then stick YOUR WRONG and my cars proof....stock 00 5spd. =15.7, stock 00 auto =16.4
Do you run with a full tank of gas?
Stock doesn't mean you can't remove wieght, take out the spare, jack, run with like an 1/8th tank of gas, take out the rear seat, passenger seat, all the junk in your center console and glovebox, take out the bong, remove some of the windshield washer liquid, there's a hundred things you can do to lose wieght, and it helps a lot in the 1/4.

ANd if you are at edinburg... good luck .... my stock time was a 16.3 down there... here in san antonio i was able to bust out a 16 flat with some serious clutch slippage and a full tank.
You have to factor in altitude. There can be upto over a 1 second difference in times depending on what altitude your at. My fastest time at 5800' with intake and exhaust was only a 17.0. But when converted down to sea level its about a 15.7-15.8
most new cars are tested at 350 feet

my best has been a 15.72 with mild weight reduction, some suspension work, intake and exhaust. adjusted for sealevel, that time would be around a 15.5
i haven't had the chance to get to the track much so i'm still workin on tire pressures, 60' times, and such.

yeah down in the valley it like at sea level or something like that. But the humidity down there makes for bad track times. this one guy at the track had a SOHC vtec civic with aem intake and greddy exhaust. hes from rio hondo. well he got all pissed cause he saw my 16.3 stock! and was liek what do you have in your car? i told him nothing and hes liek cavaliers arent that fast.. i popped my hood saw nothing in there and was like you must be an awesome driver. i felt like kicking his arse just for believing to much in his civic. It was funny to see his face when my friend in his '02 5spd hit a 16.1 on hif fist try all stock. Its gotta be the track there... its something different on the street.
in my 04 cav auto i ran a 16.8@77 mph with intake, TB, mounts, muffler. basically what is in my profile right now. i have a header and exhaust that will be installed soon. i still doubt it will do any better than a 16.5. my buddy has a 04 sunfire auto with i/h/e and his best so far is 16.3. i dont think i will catch him though...he has a 2 door base model and mine is a 4 door ls sport with ALL the options (even side airbags) so its heavy as hell. i try to run with a 1/2 tank of gas...for some reason my car seems to not run as well (in general not just racing) after it gets around 1/4 tank. but then i guess a 16.5 is still alot better than my 99 sunfire(2200/ 3 spd) its best was a 17.7@67 mph with i/h/e, mounts, plugs, wires. as for altitude im in FL so its not far above sea level.

I have an auto 00 z24. I run 15.7s. Did you make that run with tc on? Mine runs close to a 16 with tc on. What kind of tires do you have? I hooked up a lot better with the pirellis than those skinny rsas. I'm gonna pick up a set of stock steel 15s and put 195/45s on them and see how much time I drop. They're like 2 inches shorter than my rims/tires.

But seriously, why are you mad about high 15's, that is really not that much to be mad at.
Now if you were saying something like I am mad cause you run like high 13's then I would see reasonable anger otherwise, throw a few worthy mods on your car and you should be there.

well i'll be going to the track this friday, i'm confident i'll run something better then a 16.4....i'll keep you posted on my time.....one last question when you race do you drop it to 1st i've heard all kinds of stories but i'll just race it a couple of times and find out which one works best for me. thanks for all the replies
