im just wondering how many of you that have the 2.3l oil pump swapped in your 2.4l
did it your self? how hard was it(1-10)?
had a machinist do it? cost?
benefits?
can someone do this in there garage?
there are hundreds of questions i could ask but basicly im looking for any feed back on this, any of my questions,or anything youd like to say/tell me
i have read the how-to on the swap so please dont say serch cuz i have and have a lot of info from it but i just whant ppls 2 cents now
thanx ahead of time
buddy had it done...not sure what it cost him, but the result is defiantely worth it. There is no oil psi die off in teh top end no more. That alone makes it worth the $$$. He had a machine shop do it.
Yes, 4(my scale)
Yes, $0 (me)
better oil system, no losing oil pressure above 5500 rpm, less rotating mass.
probably not, start to finish.
second answer did not include parts.
I would probably expect to spend $500 parts and labor for the total job.
I really have no idea what most shops would charge.
Marking, drilling, and tapping the block should be 2-3hrs max.
I charge $160 to do the oil pan.
crank gear swap should be less than 1 hour.
That's all I know.
I have a spair 2.4 block sitting around I would like to trry this on. I could pull the pump out of a 2.3 at a yard easilly. Are there any DETAILED instructions wih measurements I would be able to follow to try this on my own?
can it be any 2.3 or does it have to a specific one? are there any part numbers?
the other pics dont work, can you send them to my email, i really need those, thanks, i_dropulic@sympatico.ca
On the scale from 0-10 I give it about 7-8.
Well I am just a back yard mechanic tho.
It cost me about $500 and I did all the work myself and I got the holes in the block welded not plugged, well that's just me.

Kernol, can you explain the pics? I can't see where you had to drill. Do you have any before shots with the balance shafts still in place?

would it be better to have them welded, or is having the holes plugged just as good?
Ok, I got the holes for the pump drilled now. Only thing is I dont know what kind of pipe is to be used for the sleeve in the oil hole. I had some plumbing pipe, but it is thick walled and while the inside is 1/2", the outside diameter is larger than 9/16 and I dont want to drill it out anymore. So what kind of pipe fits in the 1/2" or 9/16" hole drilled?
Also I test fitted everything, and for the windage tray, it looks like I will have to drill and tap the two holes over main #2. Only 2 of the 4 bolt holes match up with holes in the block.
Everything else looks great now though.
Thanks for the help all. Protomec, I have an oil pan I will have to send to you to be welded up. I'll let you know when I am ready for that.

2.3L LO, HO or the Vin 3 (SOHC) it doesn't matter man, the crank gear is the same too.
