I know I'm not Ozzie, but I did this a couple weeks ago so maybe I can help:

I'm sure 25 people will post on here telling me how I spent too much money, but I bought two of the 3-packs from Pep Boys... they are either $4.99 or $5.99 a 3-pack depending on what color you get, but you don't have to put resistors on them and each LED has about 2 or 3 feet of wire attached to it. I put one in each HVAC vent and one in each side defroster vent and they are pretty bright at night.

I think the drill bit size is 7/32", but that is without the little grommet/ring thing that comes with it. I drilled the holes behind the vents, pushed the LED in and secured it with electrical tape. I spliced the wires into my cigarette lighter and relayed them into a switch, so I can have them on whether or not the ignition or headlights are on (for car shows etc.) but I can turn them off when I don't need them.

The only major issue I came across is how to drill into the leftmost main vent. It is a double thickness of HARD plastic. For this one I placed the LED in front of the opening (but behind the vent) until I can figure out what to do. I don't want to have an LED visible in the HVAC like it is now, but I also don't want to risk cracking the plastic in that duct or worse yet messing up some other part of the car if the drill slips.

Yeah Im definately not Ozzie either but the sizes for the hvac is 74 I believe theres 3 bulbs in the hvac (those can be pulled right off) and for the cluster its 4 bulbs in size #194 and as I understand those are solder in. I know theres a post running up and down in the interior forums. Do a search foo'!!!

OOOOOOOOOOOPS, I answered the LEDs for the HVAC VENTS lolol...

The bulbs for the HVAC are either a 73 or a 74 (I think the 74s are brighter than 73s). I only had two in my HVAC control.

If you have an 03 or higher Cavalier they are little tiny bulbs that are soldered onto the circuit board.

To replace the colors you will need:

1) remove the top dash pad
2) remove the plastic bezel
3) unscrew the HVAC and pull it out

4) unplug the factory bulb and replace it with "color-of-your-choice" bulb. There are two.
Note: if you are using LED's, and one or both do not light up, then you need to pull out the non-working one, turn it 180 degrees and plug it back in.

5) Reasemble everything you have taken apart

Hope this helps answer some questions asked over and over, feel free to add to this.

heres an example of the LED bulbs that you will need

There a few places that you can get the LED's from, just look up #74 LED
OR go to Ebay....

i did mine awile back heres a pic:

i bought 5 #194 5 directional angle white led's from superbrightleds. you'll have to soldier the new ones in so if you dont have a soldiering tool, borrow one..the 5th one i used for the licence plate light for the rear bumper..i also replaced my hvac lights too but it didnt help much...unless i go back to clear knobs...
