Every Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday, "Rally on the Valley" takes place in Waco. Waco in recent years has tried to host their own thing to divert attention from it, but Rally is a major traditional car event and will not die
Basically hundreds of cars of all types (classic, import, domestic, trucks, bikes, etc.) do a free-for-all cruise up and down Valley Mills Drive (DFW J's - this is the street where we ate Jack-In-The-Box Friday night.) People "cruise the Valley" all year long but this is the major meet.
Usually there will be some car show during the day (I'll post any additional info as I get it), and then at night everyone goes out to Valley Mills and cruises... usually on this night only the businesses along this street will open up their parking lots for spectators... lots of tailgating etc. while the cars go by.
Just posting to see if there is any interest in anyone going this year - I know a lot of us have just taken a hit with the Meltdown show, but Waco is only an hour and a half away from Dallas or Austin, and there are a crapload of places to eat (especially on Valley Mills itself.) Shouldn't be too expensive if anyone wants to make a road trip and show off their J.

there is supposed to be a benefit show that weekend at Lonestar Park... It is a benefit for MD.. I was planin on goin to that...
slownlow is the way to go...
So anyone going? I know there are some Waco area J's because I've seen them.
This is a BIG, BIG show/cruise (probably several smaller shows that day, I'll give more info if I find it out) and cars come from all over the state.

Forgot to mention, the cruise itself usually starts at 6... the parking lots are full wayyy before that though so you should plan on getting there earlier in the afternoon.

THE RECAP
Well, a bit disappointing last night. Not many J's - I saw a lowered silver 03-05 that appeared to have a CF hood... may or may not be the one I saw the night before that had blue underglow @ McDonald's. There was also a Z that had a good deal of body and paintwork done to it, but it wasn't in the best shape and it was parked way out of the way in the main parking lot (its owner was probably working). The 3 or 4 other Cavaliers I saw that were cruising were 4-doors that had nothing done to them (at least visibly).
The Mopar club in Waco has a HUGE group... bunch of classics and wayyyyy too many Neons (there were at least four red ones with the same "angry eyelid" thing done to their headlights.) The Dodge dealership on Valley Mills always saves them a big spot in their car lot. The only other car club I visibly saw was a mixed one that looked like it had a bunch of ricers. Also, there were a TON of Mustangs (all generations) out last night.
There was a car show at the local community college yesterday afternoon. It was free so I entered, although most of the other cars were classics (think Rockin' Rods @ Burleson a couple weeks ago, although several weren't hot-rodded and there were more "unique" cars). A couple of late-model Mustang owners showed as well as someone with a Saturn Sky, so I wasn't the only one with a "modern" car by any means. No hardware, but it was a good time.
One final note, Waco people still have no idea how to install neons. I swear I was about blinded by one car with white neons that hung about an inch or two under the body.
