ok guys i need some help on something I might be moving to California in the next year 1 or 2 my dad and I love putting performance upgrades on our car sometimes they don't always pass Ohio admissions lol. Any way can someone please tell me how strict and what laws to expect with performance upgrades - thanx in advance-

there is NO legal turbo in cali...

yeah, he means aftermarket, i know people who have been pulled over, had the hoods popped, the cop not know what the engine was, taking pics, and sending them to a referee. ifyou get sent to a ref and have illegal @!#$ on your car, they can impound it there, or if they are nice, they will give you some slack, let you take the car home and remove the illegal parts. i actually know people who have changed their entire engine out back to a stock one, just to go to a ref and to get smog certs.

i do i do! but you gotta drive to moreno valley. i've known the guy since i was a little kid. he "overlooked" my intake before i got the CARB'd AEM intake. helped out my buddy with a focus too...he's got non CARB intake, header, exhaust.

If you can't pass Ohio smog you will NEVER legally pass Cali smog. Even if you "pass" smog a cop can have you pop the hood at anytime and send you to the ref if he believes you aren't compliant.
It will cost you a min of $300 if you get caught. I did when I was out there. Plus you have to gto to court and a bunch of other stuff. It sucks.

you can put "support out troops" ribbons on your car.
that's about the only legal mod.

the company that produced your part has to receive the CARB approval for the product. you can't go somewhere and get your scratch built turbo (just an example) legalized.

when i got my thread i was like will it pass when he popped my hood i had my intake n crap hes like i dont see why not. if your having problms just to go the autostore buy that pass smog crap guarenteed to pass it just gets it really hot so it will pass
