ECO THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR Malfunction?
Friday, December 30, 2005 1:32 PM
Hey,
To anyone who has read my previous posts of 2 weeks ago or so can maybe further help me out.
When flooring my car, the rev limiter kicks in. Have to slowly accelerate. Chevy dealership thinks I have a bad Throttle position sensor (just put in a 62mm TB 2 months ago).. He believes this is throwing my air and fuel off and so running lean, but no check engine light on for the sensor. What else could be making my car dog out?
Thanks

Sounds a lot like mine right now....I'm going to hook up the OBDII reader I have tomorrow and see what I have.

I'll keep you posted...

Mine idles really bad and whenever I try to "get on it" it bogs down. I can accelarate easy and not have an issue though?? Kind of odd...

Anyway, I'll get my laptop back in the morning and then hook it up, see what may be going on.

Just replaced the plugs and 02 sensor as well so I know it's not them...thinking injectors?? IDK??

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?

Hey,
Thanks for the post!! By the way, I had a PO1033 code come up like 2 weeks ago (02 SENSOR SLOW CIRCUIT RESPONSE BANK 1).. Its the one that reads the air/fuel ratio, was almost going to replace it when it went off after I put in new spark plugs and a fuel filter!!
So you don't think it has anything to do with a throttle postition sensor?
Please PLEASE keep me posted
Thanks

Well...I have a bad rear 02 sensor based on my scan...

Bad thing is, I leave for the states (I'm in the military) tomorrow and won't be home again til 27 Feb! So, I'll have to replace it once I get home.

Don't think that helps you any...sorry.

Sounds like a 02 sensor to me too...maybe have someone scan it for you since your light went off the codes are still stored.

So you think the 02 sensor is "bad" even though the check engine light went off by itself. Friends think I should just replace the 02 sensor and that should fix it, regardless of check engine light on or off!!! Again p01033 (02 sensor slow circuit response bank 1-- header 02 sensor)
Thanks

well mine is the 2.4 so its probably a little different. the TPS is still a dealer sold part only, you can't get it at a parts store. i think it was like 30 bucks. its real easy to install...just pop out a peice and put the new one it (on a 2.4). mine was located on the drivers side of the throttle body with a wire loom covered wire going to it. when you get the part, just pop the hood and look around on the throttle body and you'll probably find it. not hard at all to replace. that fixed my problem. good luck.

Thanks man,
I hope it fixes my problem too! When I called the dealership, they wanted 71 bucks!
Napa has it for $61.. I wish it was 30 like yours.
I think I'm going to buy it today and put it in
I'll let you know

Need MORE HELP PLEASE!!
Just put in the sensor yesterday and it DID NOT fix the problem!!
Is the ECU still trying to adjust to the new sensor? So in other words, will it end up working in a few days?
I have not had my car diagnosed properly by a mechanic, I guess that's what I'm going to do. My next hunch is my ignition pack might be screwed up. I did have a new code that I never had before. It was I believe a P0301- Cylinder 1 misfire!
But that;s gone for about a week or so now (I had it reflashed)
Just got new spark plugs a few weeks ago.
Talk to me anyone please
Thanks

the computer shouldn't have to reset itself for just a sensor...but just to be sure, disconnect your battery for 10 minutes and then hook it back up. that'll reset the computer.

if that doesn't work, take it to someone who can put it on a diagnostic machine.

Thanks,
I already tried that. But like you said, the next step is to have it diagnostically checked out!
IF anyone has any clue to what it could be. Please let me know.
I also have a slight rough idle from 800-1100 RPM's. Other than that , my car drives fine until I step on too hard.

idle air control maybe? Check the fuel pressure to see if it's within specs also.
