ok well my girlfriend has a 2002 cavalier and it has the 2.2 ohv in it, it likes to make a high pitched whine, and i thought it was coming form the alternator, when you have her stereo on you can here the whine through her speakers, does anybody on the .org have any thing they can help me with as why and where this whine might be coming from from everyones past experiences.

Plugs, wires, coil packs, voltage regulator (integral w/ the alternator, need a new one). Check all these out for good condition.

^^^...yup...thats what I was gonna say....old, broken or cheep wires have really poor insulation on them and make all sorts of weird noises on the radio.

get something with ferro spiral cores for good radio reception

I just googled ALTERNATOR WHINE and it came up with a load of resuls.


Could be a bad diode in the alternator or a bad Earth connecton somewhere
