Took a spark plug out and it was covered in oil.. Any ideas guys what needs to be done.
I'm gonna take a wild guess. Bad ring, oil is getting sucked up into the cylinder? Check the compression and leakdown, I'd bet that's the culprit.
he beat me to it. my car has 170k on it, i have the same problem on TWO of my cylinders, and 99percent sure the rings are shot.
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
car isnt smoking though.. idk
It doesn't have to be smoking. It's possible the oil is fouling the spark, thus preventing the oil from being ignited with the a/f mix, thus preventing burn. No burn, no smoke. It's a theory, and pretty likely since there's oil on the spark plug.
Noone asked yet so I will. Which side of the plug is soaked in oil ? The half where the
wire hooks to or the half where the electrods are ? Makes a HUGE difference in whats going on.

Im gana say it was oil leaking in when i took it out, like pooled around the plug. The car runs fine I had it out. Idk.
If that's the case, and it's leaking from above, then maybe you might check for leaks around the valve cover? I was thinking you meant it had oil around the electrode.
The 2.4 is know for the cam covers leaking and the 2200 is know for the valve cover leaking. Check it out and get back to us.
well heres the plug, the hole thing was dripping with something. Im asuming oil was pooling around the plug base and when i took it out it just went all over the plug, seems that may have been the case. My valve cover does need a little fixing though.

That's interesting. Oil on the wire side, oil on the electrode side. Did you check the other plugs? Was there oil pooled around them too?
Dude one word for your pic........ FOCUS!!!! Damn! My eyes still hurt. Anyway if the oil is on the side where the plug wire is on then replace your valve cover gasket, no biggie.
If its oil fowled, or the part that goes into the cylinder is covered with oil then you have other issues. Could be bad valve seals or guides, a broken ring, OR a clogged PCV system. Hey the presure in the crankcase HAS to go somewhere and you'd be surprised where it will go sometimes over the simpliest things.
The hole where the plug goes, was it pooled with oil ? OR when you pulled out the plug in the socket did the socket have oil on it ?

Yeah I didnt have the close up setting on, i was in a hurry. The hole was kinda pooled with oil.
Valve cover gasket. Replace it and you should be fine.
Good luck

The valve cover gasket is the only place I can see that the oil would be coming from. Replace it.
