Hi all!!! First post here. I drive a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and my thermostat controls just went out. No matter where I turn the dial I ONLY get the front vents nothing else. My friend and I took the dash apart and fixed the problem only to have it repeat once we tested it after replacing the dash. Has anyone else had this problem because I could use some advice. I really need my defroster but I dotn want to take it in just to fix something menial when I need the money to paint my body kit. Thanks again.
What did he fix?
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

I had this exact same problem (but on my 2.2L 90 cav)
IF (and i'm assuming here) it's a vaccum driven selector switch, then the vacuum line came off in the motor area.
Are you experiencing high idle? If so, open the hood while it's running and listen for hissing. That'll be your disconnected vacuum line. Hook it back up, and the idle will go down and your control will work.
At least, that's how I fixed mine. Sure hope yours is as easy.
Brian
we dont have a lot of things running on vacuum anymore. Everything is electric.

yeah ^ ^ I have this same problem.....*listening*
The same thing happened to my fathers 04 Eco and I brought it to the dealer just a few days ago. They said that it was caused by something wrong with a "Cable" to the "heater". I really wish I had paid more attention to exactly what he was referring to so that I could be of more help. I know it has something to do with a bad "cable" of some kind. Hopefully someone will post that knows what I am referring to.
Mine is doing the same thing. Is it hard to turn the dial, I can turn it, but I have to put some force into it, and it usually just flies back to where it likes to be.I took it to a dealership, and the guy said it was probably the acuator, and it would cost me about $200 to have fixed, Scarooooo that. I'll do it myself. Now that I'm done ranting, logic should set in. I've never heard of an acuator, what is it, will any Jbody acuator fit? How does one go about replacing it?

My car makes kind of a crackling noise when the heater is on, like wax paper being crumbled, sounds like it's coming from behind the glove compartment, is that what you're talking about?
I will have to call the dealership tommorrow and hope they can fix it, since it
possibly might be a TSB...
