Hi All,
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. I have a 1994 Chevy Cavalier VL L4 2.2. The vent will work, but every other setting, including defrost will blow through the vent. There is a tiny bit of air that will come out to defrost, but it obviously is having some problems. I'm not much of a car guy, but can do some basic stuff. Thanks in advance for any help.
Jeff
Your air condition just sounds messed up. Take it to a service center to see if you can get it fixed.

Mine is doing something very similar, but no air comes from anywhere else. Only from the front vents, I took it to a dealership, and the guy said it was probably the acuator, and it would cost me about $200 to have fixed, Scarooooo that. I'll do it myself. Now that I'm done ranting, logic should set in. I've never heard of an acuator, what is it, will any Jbody acuator fit? How does one go about replacing it?
Well it could be the same thing as with me. When I said "some" air came out of the defroster, it was barely any at all. Almost more a result of rising warm air seeping up through the defrost. Never heard of an acuator. My two cars are a combined 26 years old, so I'm more willing to experiment on the Cavalier and skip the shop if possible.
The actuator is the little motor on the side of you hvac box that opens and closes the door that switches air from your front vents to your defroster.
I have the same problem with my 03 cavy, and am looking for a cure too. I dont wanna fork over my hard earned money on the dealer's outragous markup!
I had the same problem with my 93. The cable had come off of the slider because a screw had dropped out of the slider assembly. I replaced the screw, reattached the cable and reassembled the controls but still no airflow however I recommend that you check it out. I took the car to the dealer and he wanted $1500 to remove the dash and replace a clogged A/C condencer core. HOWEVER the core is located just behind a small 2 1/2 inch circular inspection plate on the blower housing in the engine compartment up against the firewall that you can take off and blow compressed air through the core to clean it out.
