HHEELLLPP!!! Oil everywhere!!!
Saturday, December 24, 2005 8:53 PM
Ok so yesterday, comming home from picking my sister up from work... we stopped at Wal Mart cause my sister had to pick up something... and a friend was with me.

Get outta Wal Mart... my friend notices a good bit of oil that looked like it was leaking out of the engine bay through my fender and hood. We pop the hood... Oil EVERYWHERE... and the hose pictured below had blown off of the crank case.

No I do not have a 2.4, my coil pack went and my friend had a spare one from his 2.4, I have a 2.3. And yes, all that shiny stuff is oil.

Here's the hose. Now from what I've been told by a very reliable source, that hose should NOT have blown off like that. (we reattatched it in the pic and added some oil and PRAYED the car made it home, had to add a quart, and probably shoulda added another half a quart or so). He said that there shouldn't have been that much oil in there, and that if that much oil got into the crank case to cause enough pressure to blow the hose off, it's likely my motor is on it's last legs, and will need replaced very soon. He's gonna take a look at it tomorrow... but I'm bored and was wondering if someone would be able to suggest something. Sorry about the crappy pics, all I had was my camera phone.

was the clamp on the hose when it came off? There is supposed to be alot of oil in there, thats what keeps the timing chain, sprockets, etc lubed.Once i left my oil cap off,and it sprayed oil all over the place.I wouldnt worry about it.Just put a clamp on the hose.

The clamp was still on the hose itself. That hose has a metal thing in it that goes into the crank case or whatever it is. The metal part came out still attatched to the hose...

he is right though if that hose comes out or you leave the oil fill cap off ets. it will spray alot of oil but why and how that hose came off isnt normal seems you have a little excess crankcase pressure im not positive with the 2.4 but it sounds like pcv valve or system

that really sucks though gonna need alot of engine degreaser and a pressure washer

good luck with it

I said I didn't have a 2.4 lol... it's a 2.3.

That hose goes to that black box thing, that also goes into my intake... there shouldn't be THAT much oil in there to spew out like that... the first pic shows the hose going into the black box, but doesn't show the other side of the black box having the hose that goes into my intake...

I dunno I am confused...

Well,if the metal thing is still attached to the hose, something must have broke it.They dont just fall off by them selfs.I dont care how much crank pressure you have, that shouldnt be coming off.If there was too much crank pressure, the dip stick would have popped out first.Someone must have been working on the car and maybe put some pressure on it and cracked it,and over time it just fell off.To fix it,you would have to buy a new timing chain housing. But its not worth it.Just put some epxoy like j-b weld or something to hold it on.And who ever told you theres not supposed to be alot of oil in there has no idea what there talking about. You have the timing chain in there slinging oil around inside. If there is an opening, that oil is gonna be spraying all over the place.I dont know if you ever looked under the black box,but there is another hose that drains the oil back into the oil pan.The 2.3 and the 2.4 have pretty much the same setup except that black box is mounted on the block under the intake manifold on the 2.4.Theres nothing wrong with your motor, just put the hose back on and dont worry about it.

dip stick on the 2.3 is like the 2.2 its a twist lock

id go through the pcv system , and clean everything really well

pull the metal tube out and put something on it , the metal tube is only a press-fit into the timing cover

you might want to do a compression check , and cylinder leak down test , before you rule the motor as being bad

Welp... PCV system is fine...

Compression is fine... from what I gather there's allowed to be a 10-20% difference on compression (depending on what manual you read?) and the compression ratings were:

just a hair under 200 on cyl 4, 175 on cyl 3, 180 on cyl 2, and 180 on cyl 1.... abouts.

But.... there was a nice sized hole in that hose that went, replaced the hose, used electric motor degreaser stuff to clean off the oil...
