Was thinking about using a PF-61 on my LD9 next oil change, right now im using the stock PF-46, but wasnt sure of the advantages/disadvantages of using a longer oil filter. The PF-61 is the FRAM PH3675, its same spindle, but longer.

If you can fit a bigger filter, go for it. I have an oil filter relocation kit that uses a PH8A. Thats a big filter.

The main advantage is, for filter area and you can hold alittle more oil then stock.

It does hold a little more oil than stock and can go a little longer between changes.... but why? Your oil is still going to lose its viscosity all the same. I guess it would be nice to use a bigger filter but I change mine every time I change the oil so I don't really see any real benefits other than the slightly greater amount of oil.

Your NEVER suppoused to use a different filter. The inside is what is different. Different holes inside and different make up. But then again not my car so I dont give a @!#$ what you do.

I believe it is PF62 for the LD9. It is the filter off a 4.3 V6. I'm using it. I still change my oil at 3k, but like the idea of a bigger filter. The way I see it, is it can filter more, because there is more to it. Who knows, but the price is no more than a normal filter.

IIRC, the filter off the 4.3 (atleast the newer Vortech) is a FRAM PH3980, different spindle than the 3675. Its got the same spindle as the 3387A or PF47 (same filter). The 3506 (PF46) is the same spindle as the 3675(PF61), but is bigger.

I've used larger than stock filters before (obviously not on the Ecotec), mainly on the 3.4 GM V6 (went from PF47 to PF52). As long as the threads and diameter of the filter are the same, there should be no problems. It should not mess anything up.
Having said that, I've never really noticed any differences either way, so I went back with the stock size.
