HI guys hopefully someone can point me in some irection with this car. 2K cavalier ith 2.4L.
This morning it started and CEL is flashing like mad runs poor Ect. Pulled codes and random cyl missfire. Misfire data shows cylinders 1-2 missfiring. So I started checking it. It has spark, fuel, compresion on all 4. Checked the spark tower for short and checked good. Swapped with a good one I had to make sure though and got same thing. I continued testing stuff and can find anything wrong with it.
What I've done so far.
Swapped coils with each other- no change
Swapped spark distributin tower- no change
Swapped Ignition modules- no change
Swapped plugs for new ones-no change
Checked Injectors for pulse, has pulse-no change
Checked wires inside spark tower for continuty to see if signal was interupted, checked fine- no change.
I usually can fix most anything. This thing has me about fried though. I been checking stuff all day and found nothing wrong.
Any ideas??
you talking about changing the big white thing under the IDI cover? if u didnt change that.
what about the spark plug boots?
maybe a fuel filter wouldnt hurt to replace.

I had1 and 3 Misfiring on me. And When you Drive it would almost Sound like Lifters. Everytime i would touch the gas, You would here a Ticking. I also had a 2.4 Litre in my sunfire. I thought it became normal, lol. Even some B*tch a$$ mechanics Said some 4 cylinders Will eventually always do that. Well neway it broke down one day, And i ended up getting My PCm replaced. And afterward, still that damn tapping..........So i finnaly got pissed off and pulled it in the garage, lol. ItZ just my Grocery getter, so thats why i didnt do it wayyyyyy sooner..Took all my Spark Plugs out, Cleaned em. Shoulda bought new ones, yes i know. Im workin on it. After i did that. The damn thing PUrred When i started it up. .....Moral of the Story.....Double Check your Spark PlugZ!!! lol
Do you have any vacuum leaks?Check the hose for the map sensor,it might be cracked.

Actually I checked the Map sensor hose and the sensor against the Baro sensor. Reads same as Baro when not running which it should.
I Made some jumpers tonight from the plastic tower to the plugs and checked Burn time, KV and everything looks about right, Pulled no1 plug wire off and no change. Pulled no.2 next to no change.
If it was say cylinders 1-3 or cylinders 2-4 it would make sense that something was affecting those cylinders. But being 2 cylinders next to each other is kinda odd.
BTW also pulled compression test. All cylinders looking good. Tested with all plugs out to make sure gasket isnt blown between cylinders.

TTT anyone? Pulled fuel rail tonight and checked injectors and working fine.
get a can of brake cleaner and start spraying around the intake manifold.if the engine starts missing,you found your vacuum leak.maybe the injector seals are leaking and its pulling air in.also,try changing your fuel filter.DId you check the gap on the new plugs before you put them in?Did you put new spark plug boots in?id try that too if i were you.good luck.

Checked it for vacum leaks and found nothing. Plugs cant be gap checked since Platinum. Ig ot pissed tonight and started back probing sensors 1 by 1. Test IC power going into module and was fine. Cheked 7x reference and was perfect. Checkd the Cam sensor. NO hertz signal. Pulled t out and checked for cracks and such nothing. Popped it back in and rechecked it finding no signal. Unplugged it while car is running and no change in car at all. Also doesnt kick code for it either.
Where I'm at now is needing a sensor nd its past 11pm. I pulled it one more time and bench tested it showing its NFG. Car will not kick a code for it now matter what I do which is odd. Well I'll update this tomorrow if it works or not.
Platinum? you have Bosch 4+ in your car?

where would i get the new boots at? i also have the 2.4l i have no cel but i can clearly feel it after i did my plugs ive had them in and out 10 times no change
BTW Cam sensor made no difference...
The boots can be gotten at most parts stores fairly cheap as well.
i have washed my engine but who knows itonly does at lik 2k and below it stutters.. i get no cel.. maybe i need a coil pack ihave 120k+ miles and never really replaced anything
