Correct way to store car... what to do?
Monday, December 12, 2005 3:04 PM
Unfortunately I will be having back surgery early next year and my car will not be driven or even started for about a month and a half to two months. I was just wondering if there was anything I should do before hand in order to insure everything will be up and running when I am. It will be garaged the entire time as well. Thanks for the input.

id reccomend putting some stabil in the fuel tank to keep the fuel good. also i would reccomend trying to keep the car off the tires if you can so they dont sit on one spot and get some flat spots in them. Not too much more than that. and if you put it up then put mothballs around it if you have some mice problems.

I will do that thanks... what would be the best way to keep the tires off? Would you just support the car with jack stands instead? And any other input would be appriciated. Thanks again.

Id say have someone drive it atleast a week, helps with leaks in the motor too.

The problem is, is that it will NOT be driven for this time, which is why I need some information on the best way to let her sit. Thanks.

Make sure you have full gas tank, fresh oil change, all fluids topped off. I like cleaning car completely, just a preference really. Gas stabilizer will not hurt.... There is no need to lift tires of ground, only old tires & very cheap tires have this problem. Also can do more harm than good to the suspension. If theres mice around you, moth balls can do wonders. A car cover can't hurt either. I stored my car over the winter a few time now while on the SAME tires, and had no bad effects what so ever.

Think that covers most.

Alright will do... I don't think it's going to be a big issue, it's going to be in my garage which is very clean and doesn't have any problems such as mice or anything. Thanks for the help.

disconnecting the battery doesnt hurt so it doesnt die on you. i wouldmt use a car cover if its being stored out side because the moisture can get trapped between the car and the cover and can cause rust to start.

i think a lot of that is overkill for just a month or 2. i left my car sit for 15 months and all i did was unhook the battery, add fuel stabilizer and put up a sunshade, came back, rehooked the batt, and it fired right up

I somewhat agree... I plan on adding fuel stabilizer and disconnecting the batter. Like I have said, the car will be INSIDE so a cover is not practical. I'm sure it will be fine, thanks for everyones input.
