When I turn on my headlights in my 2003 Sunfire, the HVAC controls used to light up. They stopped lighting up about a month ago. I've already checked the fuses and they seem fine so I'm wondering if somehow the LEDs in the HVAC got fried.
If so, would this be fixable or would I have to replace the entire HVAC control cluster? I can likely pick one up at a wreckers pretty cheap if need be.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what might have caused this and what I can do to fix it?
It is still under warranty, but I'm not sure if the dealer will cover something like this.
Suggestions?
My biggest concern about bringing it to the dealer is my aftermarket CD player directly above it. I'm worried they'll claim that the HVAC was damaged as a result of the deck or something absurd like that.
I guess the real thing is. I'm just sketchy about dealerships.
They shouldnt say anything, if its like my 98, the HVAC and Stereo are no where related, im thinking the bulbs could be blown, worth having them look at it though.
i have see nthis before in 5 different j-bodys. its a gm problem, no surprise in this. they are not led's but low powered bulbs, i can never get theses to work right after they go out, new bulbs, and new wiresn all. so i went to a direct led string hooked into the wire clip, looks better and works great. jsut take a testlight and find the wire that lights with the headlights, and dims with the switch, i dont know off hand. led's are cheap, radio shack stocks these in various colors and types. i paid 1.25 each on mine. givet hat a try. im working on LED's to replace nearly all bulbs, thus a lower power consumption by the car, and maybe the gm alternator might live longer!
