Whenever my 96 Cavalier is in motion, or just after it's stopped moving, there's a rattle noise coming from the rear axle. Has anyone else experienced this? It just sounds like metal tapping metal about 5 times per second, the frequency of taps and volume of taps stays the same regardless of speed, which is very weird.
I found one 96 Cavalier recall notice about the rear suspension - "rear suspension trailing arm bolts can fatigue and break" - could that be the problem causing this sound? Has anyone else experienced a constant rattling noise from the rear axle and tracked it down?
Hm the noise is the same whether the brakes are pressed or not. But I do need to check them anyway, that's a good idea.
Just noticed this TSB at

733403 APR 97 Suspension - Rear Shock Noise In Trunk Area
I'm not paying $25 to read a TSB that should be publicly available from the manufacturer (IMHO), but I'm guessing a TSB is usually a simpler fix and a less severe problem than something that would garner a recall notice.
maybe the shock mounts, same on the car i have now and last one, both 97 sunfire's,it rattles all the time, started out just the driver side, and now both sides rattle
It's your rearshock mounts. Almost every J Body 95-99 I have ever been in has this problem if thery have factory rear shocks. Just tighten everything down and it'll go away.
