Brake Drum - Part number for spring
Monday, December 12, 2005 3:26 PM
Hi guys,

In the middle of doing my drum at 180 000 km. The Brake Bar Spring is no good but I can't find any at my local shops. GM doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about so I was hoping someone would know the part number or what kit it comes part of.

Other names for this spring are: Parking Brake Strut Spring or Parking Brake Link Spring... See the pictures from the following link. Maybe you can help me.

Thanks!

It this spring part of the parking brake cable? If so, you must replace the cable.

No it's not. Look at the picture on the link. It's a spring that is square shapped. It goes around that Parking Brake Link that goes between the two shoes.

Ask them for a drum brake hardware kit. It should come with every spring and everything else that you will need. I think I have a kit in my garage so a little later I will look for it and take a pic of all the springs that come in it for you.

this spring usually comes separate from the dealer only. it is called a brake drum bar spring. i work at a parts jobber store in ontario, i checked and it is not part of any hardware kit. carlson part# is h1351-2.if you have any problems finding them let me know and i could get them for you, and mail them to you.

That is correct, I just did the drums on my 86 Cavy CS. I just bought the car and who ever did the brakes before me put one side together backwards. It fell apart and the drum break bar fell down and bent. Bought a new hardware kit and no drum break bar or springs were in it. I bought a new bar from Advance, and it came with the drum break spring. You need the parking brake spring, you can buy just that from advance. Actually, the one that fits my 86 fits up to 96 according to their website.
