Cable linkage issues are not hard to grease.U should have posted this in the 2nd gen forum but, anyhow for the money it's cheap.Worse case a tranny rebuild about 600 bux if u remove it urself, but if a shop does it 1200 or so give or take.IF the throw out bearing is not shot, and it does not slip in any gears the trans should b fine, the linkage issue is simple to correct either with replacing it or grease it and the transmission itself.I hope this helps I am a 1st gen owner and had similar issues but ,not a prob just greased it,and whalaa.Hope this is in someway helpful.

I forgot to mention about the throw out bearing would make noise in neutral all the time if it was going bad.U would have to depress the clutch to see,if this was a issue if the noise goes away it's the throw out bearing is bad.It may also be low a low fluid level in the clutch fluid resevoir which is just brake fluid or the slave cylinder which changes the gears on the clutch is leaking fluid.Just some things to check and consider.Do a visual check on the resev and see if the fluid is low.if so add some and also look for leaks around the slave I am gonna assume it's a external slave cyldr and u can see the leaks. These are signs of a bad part and or low fluid which in turn cause hard shifting once at operating temps.
