I was driving my car the other day at about 40 mph when all of a sudden the motor started missing. I have pulled the spark plug wire off of my car and they are sparking like crazy. I just replaced the spark plugs this past Sunday with Autolite Resistor plugs. They are sparking but, the motor still acts like it is missing. The motor also sounds like it is backfiring through the intake whenever I press give it alot of gas. I am also noticing that it acts like it has no power when I give it gas and it doesn't want to accelerate over 38 mph. It takes me about 35 seconds just to reach 35 and it won't go any faster. I have tried everything I can think of. Any ideas? If anyone can think of anything other than the ignition module and the coil packs let me know? If it is the coil pack or the ignition module than I will have to try and figure out how I am going to get the things out of the motor form the small spot they are in. Help!

If the problem didn't occur until you changed the spark plugs, and you still have the old ones, (In serviceable condition) put the old ones back in.
It maybe that the resistor plugs are just enough load to cause the coil packs or module to fail.
It would still mean that you would have to establish exactly pack or module failure but would give you and idea of where to start.
Alont
maybe he cross threaded the plugs and one of them is now coming loose.

I'm surprised you show up to our meets after half of the things you say on here.
when my mechanic did torque them all the way down i had power loss but i could still go any speed i needed.
also i had a "ticking noise" but that was the air being forced the my spark plugs since the were loose.
Did you recently put gas in your car? I had watered down gas and that was my problem. I was having the problems you described.
Pull the plugs out and see if you cracked one. And make sure all plug wires are on right.
dopnt use auto lites in GM, those are promarily a Ford plug, and dont work well in GM. get A/C Delcos.
Sounds a lot like the problem I have been having with my car. Mine is a CEL codes for camshaft and crankshaft sensors. Mine started just like what you are saying without a CEL light then the other day it the CEL came on.
My neighbor had a similar problem after changing plugs on his Cavy. He swore he did everything right. Turned out he crossed two of the plug wires. Worked great after he put the wires back where they belonged.
