Blown 2.4

So I'm crusing on the expressway a couple days ago, and the engine just dies. Well turns out my timing chain failed and threw my valves into the pistons and junked the top half of the motor. I'm pretty dissappointed about this, seeing as how my car is a 2000 and has less than 90K miles. I'm starting to question GM's quality for the first time.

Well... yes, it sucks, but on modern high-compression engines, such "intereference" or "collision" is pretty common. That's why it's really important to keep your timing belt/chain in good shape.

However, I'm really surprised yours would break at 90k miles. I thought they were supposed to be good till more like 110k?

Yeah, it does suck... I have already ordered a "new engine" too. Its out of a salavaged 2000 z24, it has 51k. I got it for a pretty good price though, $850. I'm having it swaped next week, along with a new clutch. As far as "it's really important to keep your timing belt/chain in good shape." well there is no maintaince scheduled for a timing chain. The timing chain is a part of the engine that should outlive the car. But yes, belts do need replacing. And by the way, clutch kits are extremely expensive for this car.
