Depends what part of the exhaust you're talking about.

The 96-98 exhaust manifold, downpipe, cat, etc are all the same. So are 99-02 (except for the O2 sensor... 1 wire on 99, 2 wires on 00-02).

The cat-back part will swap on most years (I had a 2005 cat back exhaust on my 99.. cost me $20!).

The downpipe/flex pipe/cat will not swap across 98/99 break.

Hmm... that might work. Lots of work for an exhaust system that's still stock though

You'll lose the EGR... but I think you'll still need to keep it connected to the wire or you'll throw codes. Not sure on that.

Which part are you talking about? Around the muffler? If so, just go with the cat-back section and you'll be fine... assuming you can separate the flange, as they usually rust solid right there.
