PLEASE READ: My Car's Problems/Lemon Laws??
Thursday, December 08, 2005 3:22 PM
ok. i made anotehr post about one of my problems but i was wondering if i could ahve as many peoples opinions as possible. I have numerous problems with my brand new 05 sunfire it has 5600 miles on it. here are the problems as follows.
1.This morning my power steering totally went out. i ahve no clue why nor does the dealership so they are going to have to look into it more they said.
2. Gas mileage on this car is horrible and fluctuates at extreame amounts. 1 week i will get 215, the next week i will get 300. I put the exact same amount of gas in the tank regardless of price because i am trying to prove my thought on this.
3. A sound from my engine which from what i ahve read on here and where the sound is coming from is the getrag tranny growl. It has growled since the day i drove it home off the lot. So excuse me but thats jsut fu*king gay. If there is a problem with a tranny you dont put it in thousands of new cars and sell themn without a cure for the problem. THats just fu*king stupid and i am embarresed to take peoiple around in my new car when it sounds terrible and it just makes it look like @!#$.
4. An extreamly loud ratteling from the rear. My guess is its either the exhaust, or a strut. It rattles extreamly loud, and too often to overlook it.
5. Interior dash rattleing, this is so terrible it makes noise at the slightest vibrations and i dont even know where it is coming from.
6.Electronics on more than one occasion including the radio, interior lights just do not work. I will ahve to pull over and turn off the car and turn the key 3-5 times before they will come back on then i can start the car again and continue down the road.

Those are the major ones i cna think of. correct me if you think differently but to me that is a @!#$load of problems that should not exist on a brand new car. I am 17 i pay the monthly payments and i dont want to ahve to deal with all of this problems when i am about to go to college. I am so close to stting down with my dad and finding a solution to where we can jsut get a new SI for me or something because this is just stupid. My father also noticed the trannys noise the day he took it off the lot and drove it to our house for me. If anybody has any opinions on this please let me know because i am at a loss and am afraid there will be other problems that are going to have to be addressed soon.

1. They should fix it. Its under warranty. Dont take no for an answer.

2. It all depends on how much you've got your foot in the gas.

3. Theres nothing wrong with it. It just makes noise.

4. Could be the exhaust. Maybe you have a loose strap.

5. That Chevy for ya.

6. Make sure that your fuses are all good. Other than that dont know what to tell ya.

Lemon Laws? What makes your car a lemon? Take it to the dealership w/ a list of stuff you want them to look at... It's all you can really do. I'm not sure what you mean by "Lemon Laws?" in the topic, but they surely aren't going to give you a new car because of this.

lol i went to the dealer with the problems, but they said they will only fix the power steering. And i am not expecting a new car nor do i want one from gm. I am going to ahve a long talk with my dad and we are possibly going to go look at different cars such as a subaru impreza or new civic si"s. i just do not want to put up with all of these problems on a new car.

If you're gonna bitch about the problems, then tell the dealership to fix them. If @!#$bag part-time service man Jerry says they won't do it, then ask to speak with his supervisor. If the supervisor wont do anything, then work yourself up the ladder again. Take it up with GM customer care if you have to. The point is you SHOULD NOT have to put up with those types of problems. Don't bitch out and leave the dealership, because I can guarantee you that the dealership doesn't give a rats ass about your car problems. You need to make them care, tell them it's a brand new car, 5,600 miles, and you want the problems fixed, that is what a warranty is for.

You have to make sure that the problems are significant enough for the dealer to duplicate them, because if they say they can't duplicate your concerns, well then there's not much you can do.

your far from lemon law

most states you have to have it for the same thing atleast 3 times , or be with out you car more than you have owned it

but each state is different , and you have to check with your state for its specific law about it

Problem: My wife's Cav was still under warrenty. The rotors were warped, but the stealership thought they were fine and refused to replace them.

Solution: Went to another dealership. Replaced no problem and on our way.

How does this relate to you: Get steering fixed at your dealership now. Take the car to another dealer to replace other stuff. You shouldn't have to pay a dime.

well I don't know about your state, but in NY the dealership has to look at it three times in a certain time period and it has to be a major problem and before you take it off the lot again, they have to sign a paper saying that it is safe to drive, everytime.

97cavie said what I was going to. I know in MD the car needs to go back for the same problem 3 times in I believe one year. Other then that you don't have what the law deems a lemon.

UPDATE: i heard back from the dealer 4.5 hours after they told me i should hear from them. THe problem with the steering was a bad power steering pump. They told me it was going to be free and it would ahve cost me $650 if i would not have had a warrenty. The tranny is a different issue, the gear rattleing or whatever, they said they are not going to touch it after one of the mecanics told the manager he heard the gears rattleing as he was driving the car from around back. SOLUTION: if in the next 6 months i do not ahve a fixed tranny or any more of these nice litle suprised pop up, i am working to jsut be working my ass off over winter to pay off the loan completely so i can trade the car in for an 06 subaru wrx impreza that me and my dad just finished test driving, and i fell in love with. Unfortuanyl i really was looking forward to putting some nice wheels and HIDs on this car in the next few weeks, but i have to make the decision soon on if i want to pay the car off or just put some money into enjoying this car and hope to god no more of these mishaps come up with 6,000 miles on the car. I was very lucky that i did not wreck the car when it went out, i was turning a corner in 11 inches of snow when i started slidding down a hill and could not recover, because i had pretty much no steering.

Well good luck with it I guess. But wouldn't it have been better if you DID wreck it ?
NO I am by no means suggesting you do anything illegal but wouldn't your insurence have paid it off if you did?

Becareful about that. If you wreck it make sure you hit something hard or something at a higher rate of speed to damage it badly. On a new car like yours I'm talking airbag deployed, front bumper, hood, headlights, both side panels, radiator, A/C condensor, hopefully mess up the core support.

Which dealership are you fighting with? I had issues with my '99 Z when I first bought it and basically walked into the dealership and told them flat out that this car is under warranty and they will fix it. Everything you have described falls under the bumper-to-bumper warranty and they should fix it. Like someone else said, escalate your complaints until you get resolution.

When I had issues with my Z running rich, I took it to Charlie Fisher in downtown KC, they couldn't schedule me in, then I took it to McCarthy Chevy in Olathe and they were complete a-holes. Since my car wasn't throwing a code, they couldn't fix it. They admitted something was wrong since it was running so rich, but without a trouble code, there was nothing to fix. I fought with them for two days. Gave up on them and took it to Gaylen Boyer Pontiac, explained what the car was doing. They replaced my o2 sensor with no questions and the problem was fixed.

If you don't get any resolution with one dealer, try another. You can always call the GM customer service hotline as well to complain. They will usually contact the dealer in question and work it out with you. What ever you do, do not get rude with anyone. Being rude just gives them justification to ignore you as a rude 17 year old kid. Just be persistant, explain yourself, and don't give up.

As for just paying this car off to sell it without getting these issues fixed? Do you realize how much money you are going to lose on this car?

Re: PLEASE READ: My Car's Problems/Lemon Laws??

i do realize what i would lose. if i can get it paid off i can get 7-8k trade in. i might keep it and try and enjoy what i have. if i do i will do major things to it but i ahave not decided i am going to just save up until i reach my decision. btw the dealership was Andy Klein on metcalf. If i do keep the car its either i go turbo, or i redo wheels, HIDS, cf hood, drop and more mojor things around febuary, or march.

1. Warrenty Work.
2. Was it the same kind of driving conditions? Was it the exact same route?
3. Sounds like a bearing issue somewhere.
4. Heat shield is lose on the cat or exhaust.
5. It's a GM.
6. Fuses are tarnishing.

If these problems are being reproduced by the dealership, they should not give you any problems with fixing it. When i first bought my 03 cavalier new, it had some kinda paper in the hvac tubing somewhere that flapped when the blower was on. They took the dash off, found and removed it. Then i broke the HVAC selector knob one cold morning, they fixed it no problem. THEN i was getting a squeeking from my front suspension. Even though it was very hard to reproduce at times, they found the problem and serviced it, free.

What it sounds like to me is that your specific dealership is a Lemon when it comes to service. No two dealers are alike, trust me. I bought my cav at a specific dealership due to its service reputation.

Go to another dealer. Tell them why you had to come to them, because the other dealer wouldnt perform. A good service center at a dealership will be very happy to help you, because most purchased cars come back to there original sales orgin for service, so for another dealer to gain you as a customer for service means possible brake jobs and oil changes.

I really hope you consider being patient and fixing this vehicle. Mine has been trouble free since the few things I fixed in the begining. I now have 30k miles on it and it runs smooth and the 5 speed and clutch is like day 1. The ecotec engine is said to be extremely reliable and has gone through the most vigorous testing in GM history. The deal your father got on the vehicle HAD to have been very good because the sunfire and cavalier have been going out the door for a song since 9/11.

I'm not sure how much money you have to burn, but I would have to consider it very foolish (not trying to insult you in anyway) to pay off an entire loan, interest and all, just to trade it in on the next best thing. Thats alot of money wasted. The Sunfire is a nice ride, besides, if you get rid of it now and buy a subaru, your only gonna want the next big thing for 2007, and trust me, somthing cooler is always on the way.

Good Luck with the Repairs!

My dad get a very godo deal for the car, it stickered for right under 17k. AFTER sales taxes i payed 11,197. I will probably try a diff dealership next time just to test it out. but i am really going to try and stay away from modifying anything performance wise or engine wise just for the sake of leaving NO questions about warrenty so i do not really ahve to deal with any of that crap again.

for it to be deemed a lomen, the same problem has to show up atleast 3 consecutive times, with 3 repair orders minmum. and if they cant find the problemsimply with a tech, they should have a field service technician out, thats what ford does, right now w/ the F-150's they have a mojor vibration problem in the '05's
