hey, recently my car started making loud noise when turning the steering wheel. it sounds like power steering sound(when you go all the way to the right or left) but its way louder and it does it all the time. I didnt check my fluids or anything. but it started doing that when it got colder.

any suggestions

when u turn ur wheel all the way either left or right to the point u cant turn no more ur putting too much stress on ur power steering pump. turn the wheel back a little bit i will save ur power steering. when u have it turned all the way the PSI runing through the lines are easily almosted doubled. save ur p/s and lay off from turning it completely either way.

I'd say check the fluid. Plus the fluid is thicker when it is cold, causing it to move slower till it warms up.

this is gonna sound really weird, since I'm 99% sure it's just low fluid. BTW, check it right now, like now now. If a pump runs dry for too long it overheats and the seals in the pump don't like that, or running dry for that matter. OK, now for the weird part, check your tires.

Why?

When it's cold, the pressure drops in the tires, causing more of the rubber to touch the road and the rubber that's touching really soft and resistant to move (you'll have to visualize this). This creates more drag on the PS system. I've noticed this with my car that has leaky front tires. I can tell when they're getting low by listening for the strain on the PS. Fill up the tires, and the sound goes away.

I know, far out.......but possible. First, check your fluid. It's most likely that.

no its not your pump or even your power steering fluid.

Clunk Noise from Front of Vehicle During Turning Maneuver/Steering Wheel Rotation (Replace Intermediate Steering Shaft) #04-02-35-004C - (Dec 2, 2004)

This bulletin is being revised to update Grand Prix model year information, and include repair information to prevent damage to the SIR coil. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-02-35-004B (Section 02 - Steering).

Condition
Some customers may comment on a clunk type noise coming from the front of the vehicle during a turning maneuver. This condition may also be felt through the steering wheel when the vehicle is stationary and the wheel is rotated from steering stop to steering stop.

Cause
The clunk noise may be caused by a stick-slip condition in the intermediate shaft. An interaction with the steering system creates a vibration that travels up the steering column to the steering wheel.

Correction
DO THIS

Replace Intermediate Steering Shaft

Notice: : The wheels of the vehicle must be straight ahead and the steering column in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Failure to do so will cause the SIR coil assembly to become uncentered, which may cause damage to the coil assembly. Insert J 42640 (steering column anti-rotation pin) into the steering column access hole in order to lock the steering column.

A new intermediate steering shaft has been released to address the clunk noise.

Important: Engineering changes have been made to the Service Parts available through SPO. The Service Parts for the vehicles listed in this bulletin will no longer require lubrication of the Intermediate Steering Shaft.

Install a new shaft following the Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement procedure in the Steering Wheel and Column sub-section of the Service Manual.

But he doesn't describe the sound as a "clunk"

That's a whiney sound, not a clunk. He also didn't check the fluids, and noticed that it started during a temperature change......
