Heater Problem
Saturday, December 03, 2005 4:37 PM
For some reason for my 95 2.2...when im at idle...my heat turns cold...but then when i give it gas, the car heats up again...

like if i start my car up in the morning, its useless to start it for it to warm up, because when its idling, it doesnt warm up inside...

I had the same problem with a 96 Toyota 4x4. It was the thermostat sticking. Really cheap and easy to replace.

let me remind you all, its not the car overheating, its the cars ACTUALY heat, inside the car, keeps going to cold when i idle...then it blows out hot air when im moving again..

But the thermostat is what opens to allow the cold water from your radiator to circulate through the engine AND the heater core.

Another thing to check that would be very easy is if you have enough coolant in your radiator.

Cover your rad leave a small hole about the size of a soft ball centre of where your rad fan is.When the engine is at no load it makes very little heat.Your heater core and rad together are drawing away what little heat is being made at no load.Soon as you rev the engine up or begin driving the car it makes more heat and the water pump circulates the coolant faster through the heater core so more heat transfer can be felt by you.Try lowering the fan speed to low or mid speed you will pick up more heat from the heater core as the cold incoming air has more time to pick up heat as it passes through the core.

Have you tried:-

Removing the radiator cap

Heater controls to HOT

Run the engine until the thermostat opens and you can see coolant moving through the rad

This should allow any air in the system to escape

Add coolant to the rad as necessary

Replace radiator cap

Top off coolant reservoir, replace cap

Check reservoir level after the first test run.

Repost the results

Good Luck
