Spraying Oil, oh crap

Ok, i need as much input on this as possible. I have had clicking valves for the last few days, i brought the car to my mechanic and he listened to it and said sounds like the lifters are hosed too. Im taking the car in tommorow and hadnt really driven it that much unless i had to. Well, today, i left my job and had to go fuel up, so i did. I had to take the 295 home and when i pulled off the exit and stopped at a light i seen a small amount of smoke coming from the engine, and smelled burning oil. So i get the car home and open the hood and there is oil all over everything. It was mostly spraying toward the firewall, because the firewall was drenched. The first thing that pops into my mind is blown head or head gasket. I was wanting a little more input on some other stuff it could possibly be that i might not be thinking of right now.

What motor? The oil filter on the 2.2L OHV is in the back, Pass side, about half way down the block or so, maybe its leaking?

1) check your spark plugs. If they are oil soaked, then is a head gasket or piston ring.

2) Run your fingur around the valve cover. There should be no oil on the outside, if there is, its the valve cover gasket.

3) Check to make sure your oil filter is on good, though i truely doubt thats the cause.

if it's the valve cover, i dont think there would be enough pressure to spray oil out of it. it sounds to me to be a head gasket.

when my Valve cover gasket went on my 2200 about 2 months ago, oil was everywhere.

When i had the eco before death, oil was everywhere, cause oil would not leave the valve cover.

You could always test you theory by driving your car without the valve cover on.

The oil is move when the car is in motion. This is a classic sign of a GM valve cover gasket failing.
