DEAD BATTERY

I went to start my cavalier (1999 Z24) and the battery was dead. It was a good battery and I haven't left anything on. So I tried to charge it. When I hook up the charger and turn it on it makes a clicking noise. Inside the car I can also hear a clicking noise behind the glove box. Then after about a minute of this the charger kicks off. What could it be??? Any help is apreciated.
Thanks

i wouldnt know where to start. but if this is a brand new battery and its dead allready i wouldnt bother trouble shooting it. a new battery sine it is still warranteed(i cant spell)
if it has the same problem then you know it isnt the battery

The clicking noise is when you turn the charger on, not try and turn the ignition right? I just went through the whole dead battery/dead alternator issue about a week back.

I know this sounds stupid....but check your battery cables. I changed an alternator when all that was wrong was the ground cable was just barely hanging on.

how do you locate the ground cable...there's soo little room now that I have my intake on my 2002 cavy, so how can I reach it?
