I found 4 codes in my car.
The check engine light was on for a while and it was the oxigen censor. then came back on for maybe 2 months later and it had not one (1) but four (4) codes.
The car runs good, I did erase the codes and the check engine light didn't come back on. YET!!
The codes that I found were:
P1441
P0172
P0342
P0172
what does it mean?
its a 97 2.4 Z24
185,000 Miles
Thanks for the help!!
DTC P0342 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Low Input
What does that mean? is that bad?
DTC P0172 Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 1
what does that mean? Oxigen censor?
There's not a code for P1441
P0342 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Low Input
Where is this located, and what it does?
it seems to be some kind of fuel problem.
the car gets good gas mileage, I think
I can still get over 400 miles out of a full tank of gas on the high way
I drove it to work today, and the light didn't come on.
Camshaft position sensor circuit low input, dayum
that sounds too technical- for me! lol
only because I can do a 2.4 water pump, and an oil change doesn't mean I'm
a mechanic.
btw, thanks for the list bagge
Here's a pic of my car. I'd replace the front plate with a T for TN
and door sunvisors, ohh and a smily face
for the antenna
LOL!
1. DTC P1441 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Flow During Non-Purge
2. DTC P0172 System Adaptive Fuel too rich
3. DTC P0342 Camshaft Position sensor curcuit low input
4. DTC P0172 (double code?)
1. Purge solenoid. located somehwere in the back of engine bay, follow the metal "brakeline" type tube the goes from your charchoal canistor (mounted on PCM braket) to behind the engine to around the driver's side, it will be in the area somewhere
2. May be b/c of one, or could be residual from the O2 sensor
3. could be a bad Cam sensor. most likely
Maybe
its hard to tell what's wrong over the internet, I'll take it to the dealer to find the problem.
Sometimes I can do the Labor myself
They charge about $100.00 dollar per hour
I needed a new Thermostat, and they wanted to charge me about $240.00 dollars.
Took me about 30 minutes to replace the thermostat.
I'd jack the car UP, removed the header cover plate thing off, and the right fender cover off, and the tire off too.
Then I took a long extension with a 8mm socket to remove the 2 bolts down where the
water-pump is. anyway, it was simple!!!!
I don't know, it didn't look like a 240.00 dollar job to me lol
for a 8.00 dollar thermostat, and a gallon of DEX Cool no way man
Thank you for your time, and attention
The cam position sensor isn't too hard to do. I just did one tonight actually. But we had that code and it didn't fix our problem with the new sensor. So i'm thinking timing belt may be broken.
how can you tell the timing chain is broken?
When the timing chain breaks, the car won't run.
does it make a noise?
mine seems pretty quiet
It won't start at all if you timing chain is broken. It most likely would have made a noise like a loud clicking....almost like if you had no oil....before it broke. So in your case your timing chain is not broken.
As for the sensor....have you checked the wires going to the sensor? My friend's 99 cavy had frayed wires and all he did was rewire it and it stopped throwing a code.
The sensor itself is about 65 bucks give or take some at autozone. I know there's probably cheaper places but no one had the sensor in stock when i needed it.
Good luck man.
well, I'll see how it goes. I'd scan the car again with a snap-on scanner and everything
was okay, and I drove it around the block. So far no codes.
Thanks for the help
