Bad seals.

yep there is oil getting in and whatever is not getting burned is being pulled out the exhaust. Unfortunatly the only cure for this is a total engine rebuild. I would start checking your oil level EVERY TIME YOU FILL UP WITH GAS. if you do not and your oil level gets low enouf, you could run the risk of blowing the engine up.

If your oil level hasn't droped then I doubt you need to replace any seals. Have a friend follow you as you drive to see if any blue smoke comes out of your exhaust.

Just because your engine burns some oil there is no need to toss the car away (unless it won't pass inspection). Switch to the cheapest oil money can buy and just add oil as often as needed.

Well i wouldnt say you need a total rebuild. If its not burning oil but its comeing out your exhaust then you have a bad exhaust valve seal. Pull the head have it rebuilt and throw it back on. I wouldnt get rid of the car.

Don't do anything.

I would rebuild the engine because it's probably useless.

Nobody tought about water + carbon deposit. No way in hell oil will get to the muffler. blue smoke will but not oil. When the cat does it's job, it produce vapor and that water stay in the tip. The carbon deposit and water will produce a liquid that LOOK like oil but it's not.

Btw, if oil would get to the muffler, you wouldn't see anything behind the car because it would be smoking so much.

I agree with MFK. Check real hard to make sure it's actually OIL you're seeing as opposed to sooty condensation. If you're actually getting LIQUID oil in your tailpipe, you're burning a heck of a lot of oil and your engine probably wouldn't run right. You'd have a Check Engine Light on for sure, for an oil-coated oxygen sensor, etc. I bet it's just sooty condensation (it will look like thin black oil).

I'm leaning toward what MFK and Jason are saying. Condensation and exhaust soot
mix together and it can resemble an oily substance. Just keep track of the oil level and if your not losing any then don't worry about it. Its probly nothing anyway.

Good Luck

alright, well ive been checkin my muffler and my oil level, and havent noticed any 'oil' anymore nor is my oil level low at all.... so im guessin it was just carbon and water or whatever... but it sure felt like oil... oh well... i'll keep my eyes on the oil level and pray that its nothing and the car lasts me for a while!!

thanks everyone!!
