it's so you can bolt up the intake to whatever hole you have nearby... the rubber is like a shock absorber I guess, it allows the intake tube to flex a little while still holding it in place. It's kinda hard to get it to fit perfect, but that's what it's for. I'm assuming your intake came with some kind of rod to attach to the intake so you can support it somewhere? That rubber thing goes at the end of the rod to attach to the car. Unless I'm just completely thinking the wrong way here, that's what it's for.

You got a rubber bushing, for Placement where needed. HOWEVER, you may not need it. Many Ebay intakes and some otherwise professional ones come with extra pieces, to make an intake fit in just about any car that uses the same relitive shape, So R&D doesnt have to design an intake for each and every engine and car combination.

Does that help you any?

Its just there if your specific intake is universal on other cars. Example, i have a 2000 2200 2.2L. like duh! And its intake from injen and AEM are also used on about a dozen other cars or various makes and models.

The actual engine has little to do if its universal or not. The 2200 engine Injen intake is the same for some honda's, just reversed, And it even works on KA247 1.8L DOHC engines.

Though i dont use injen intake anymore, i use a modular one, Basicly it still hold true.

Just about any intake for any Engine, can be used just as well on a similiar intake tract of a different car and different engine.

I cant explain that any clearer.

you dont need it. just attach the bracket on the intake tube to the power steering bolt and youre done.

Photos of the Intake? My AEM didnt include that, just the hardware necessary to install it, speaking of which, is there an easier way to install that darned Breather hose?

Its used for mounting the AEM ecotec cold air intake to the side of the bay. Now as you have a 2.4 im guessing they toss it in the box becasue it says cavalier on it and happened to be on the packing list just in case?
