i get this smell of gas, not a whole lot but noticeable, whenever i start it up and let it warm up for a bit and reenter the car. just being a bit paranoid, and i hope thats the only reason, but is there something i should check, such as fuel lines, pcv valve going bad and leaking, or what not? after driving the car and turning on the heater/ac the smell goes away. everything thus far with my car arent large dangers yet, *knock on wood, but just small types, but could lead to large ones as well. thanks everyone.
Did you eat at TACO BELL last?
Just check that you don't have any leaks anywhere and it should be fine.

ahhh jackalope, or should i say jackal *:p j/k i got no CEls running, and i tend to use the vents as a source of drawing the engine heat into the car, my hunch is its prolly coming from there. in any case, i hear that the pcv vavle controls the amount of gases being used and reuses the materials to fully combust them. i'll check my fuel lines to see if there is a leak, but i dont believe so. its getting freakishly colder and i cant stand the cold.
I had a shadow that had a light gas smell when it was first started, but it went away quickly. It was the return line right at the gas tank, and it puddled on the tank, never saw a drop on the ground until it blew completely a week later.
Gas leaks aren't something to ignore, check your ride around the filter, the tank, anywhere there is a connection. If you can't find any leak, take it to someone and get it looked at.

hmm sounds like a good idea. i added gum-out fuel injection cleaner to clean out any build-up yesterday. but i gotta check and double check around the fuel filter. i dont know how long the filter is on the car b4 i bought it. the car had 74K now at 80K, possibly a good time to replace the filter correct?
/\ /\ /\ Is right, deff don't ignore gas smells. If you do make sure you carry a fire exting with you.
But if you do actualy have a 99 Z then I guessing its a 2.4 right? If so they do not have a regular PCV valve they have what is called a PCV oil seperator located under the intake manifold. I doubt that would be your problem as all it does is recirculate the nasty gases in the crankcase back to the intake to be burned and dumped out the tail pipe.
How long ago did you notice it start? Think, did thou do anything to the car right around the time it started? If not then you just need to check all the fuel lines.

the only things i had done are in my registry. but engine area wise i'd swapped the TBs, did some hyper-ground custom made, changed to bosch platinums(that might be the reason ?) nothing i had come to known that dealt with the fuel lines other than adding fuel injection cleaner.
Yeah then you just need to do some looking around and find the leak.
Good Luck.

could be numerous things. check your injectors. mine is caused by my injectors, there is too much pressure in my rail so they moved up just a little. enough to let a little gas. out.
