how to replace a wheel stud?
Saturday, November 19, 2005 11:56 AM
Ok the other i was rotating my tires and one of the lugs was tight and i didnt know why so after i got it off i found that part of a thread on the stud was a messed up. So i got a new stud and i got the brakes and everything off but i cant get the hub part that holds the studs off and i wanted to know what i have to do to take that off?

It wouldnt be any fun if it was easy.

Did it brake off or its just striped? Either way heres what you do. First on the other studs that are not messed up put the lug nuts on them to protect the threads from getting hurt while you work on the messed up one. Now that you have that done smack the bad one with a hammer on its end till it is poped out the back of the hub, now you'll ned to rotate the hub till you find either the access hole to remove the bad one and install the new one or on some cars its just a notch cut out. Not too sure which it would be on our cars but the concept is universal. then put a little WD-40 or any kind of oil on the new one, this helps press it in. Put it in from the back as far as it will go thru then spray some more WD-40 on the threads of the new stud put on a lug nut and just start tighening it. As it tightens it will pull the new one in. Then when its all the way in it should look just like the others from the back side. remove them all and put your wheel back on. Its about a 5 minute fix!

Now that your done go drink a beer!!

use the notch idea, its a better idea, I had to do that and it sucked penis. GM didn't think of a hole in the hub to slide a new stud through. nor did and after market parts makers
