when I try to turn my car in tight spots, I hear this weird grinding noise, and a lot of vibration but only when the wheel it as far as it will go in one direction or the other. And no, before anyone asks the wheels are not actually grinding against anything.... so, what could it be??? My Boyfriend's heard it too, and he doesn't know either................ Anyone else have that happen???
if its like a humming sound when the wheel is turned to the max, its your power steering turned to its maximum distance. wont go any farther. all cars make that sound i believe.
if the vibrations speed up / slow down with the speed of the vehicle then it could be CV joints or something that is along the lines of the axles.
14.82 @ 97 mph
Also you must remember, when you turn the wheel to the extremes the powersteering pump is under a lot more pressure than when you turn it just slightly, thats why it makes a little noise in all cars. If yours is making a lot more noise than is should it could be signs of the pump going out.

What makes you think I'm crazy?
Champ is right... but first check the fluid level..ALSO if you oversteer alot, it will wear out the pump alot quicker.
