I have a 1998 Cavi with the 2.2L(2200) and an automatic. I DO NOT have a tach.
My car idles just fine.....no shaking or missing but seems to not want to go anywhere when in drive and the pedal is released.
Im in drive and release the gas...and it SLOWLY takes off....almost as if its struggling to get moving...anything other than perfectly flat ground and it may NOT move at all until you hit the gas!!
When our auto transmissions are cold they take a while to build up line pressure. This means that when you get in your car and switch from park to drive, it'll slowly push into drive, because there isn't much pressure behind it.
The auto transmission is also a bit sluggish anyway, you can remedy this with a shiftPlus or AutoTrans interceptor.
If it's doing this after the engine has run a while at full temp, I dunno.

also check fluid level/quality, make sure it's still red, not black or brown, and se if it smells burnt
