Have you been Auto X'ing it ??....one guy with a 2.4L sunfire had that problem at a race i was at.....too many G forces and oil from the head would dump through the throttle body and into the intake.....Ive only seen it happen one time though....it was harmless....just makes a mess.....as long as you dont see any massive oil loss.

its probably from the crankcase breather venting into the intake
r u sure its oil and just garbage build up? try to spray it out with some carb cleaner

CORRECT!
You are right. Either a PCV valve or other form of it, leaves some form of oil residue on your intake, and inside your Plenum, and butterfly valve too. This is normal, Its an emission thing and prevents building up too much pressure in the head. If you can find out exactly where its entering the intake tract, I dont know on the 2.4L, You can place either a Breather filter in place, or a carberator style plastic fuel filter, to remove the oil from entering your intake.
BTW, there is little to no HP/TQ differance Either way you have it.

Well newer cavaliers dont have a PCV valve, Most cases under hard throttle little bit of oil will enter the throttle body boot or throttle it self, Ive asked GM Tech about that, My 01 2.2 Cavalier does it. Even 88-90 do it as well. Now if youre car is losing oil then thats a different matter, Could be oil rings / Pan gasket / valve cover Gasket. etc.

Actually a slight correction. I dont recall on the eco, but the 2200 does have a PCV valve, just a non removable one, inside the valve cover.

Yes it looks like PCV valve, Its not a machanical one. If you remove it from the crank case and compare it to an other PCV valve, Their is no metal ball inside PCV valve, its got a straight through design. Even on 88-89 2.8L - 3.1L has a 8 inch plastic pipe running to the valve cover to the throttle body boot.

i thought it was i just wanted opinions before i did anything

the pcv valve is called an oil/air seperator, on the 2.4's. Its about a 50$ can. part, from gm. Mine did it too aswell, i had some oil come up through the breather line into my intake, no harm done, although i started having idle troubles after, could have been cause of that. no need to worry about it tho, i drive the @!#$ out of my car, and no harm done yet. by the way, if you want to change the oil/air seperator, you have to take the intake off aswell, and make sure you put a new gasket... hope this helps
my breather (from crankcase and timingchin cover) are both run to a breather/filter that no longer run into my intake
small amount of oil on it after 20,000 on new rebuild
i had the same problem with mine and i fixed it with putting a filter in the tubing and now i dont get oil in my intake anymore
PCV = positive crankcase ventilation, i couldn't find a valve on the Eco but it does do the same job the hose goes directly to the air intake.
