HVAC problem after gauge install
Friday, November 11, 2005 6:14 PM
After taking the top of my dash off to install glow gauges my HVAC controls seem to be screwed up. I have searched and found some good posts but, my problem is not mentioned. I get no air from my defrost or heater vents. I always get air from the panel vents at whatever temp. I have set and even with the fan off, the faster I drive, the faster the air comes out.. My HVAC control knob will not turn to defrost on the far left setting (counterclockwise). It will go into the far right setting (clockwise) and the a/c compressor does come on, still no air. All the fan speeds are OK , hot and cold air temp ok.
Someone please help before I start tearing the dash apart to find the problem.

2004 Sunfire automatic w/ cruise control.

The gauges were already wired. I just connected the hot wire to the cigarette lighter circuit and grounded the circuit. The gauges work fine. I looked at it today and was able to work the ducts properly, from under the dash, but the hvac controls will not work. The a/c comes on in recirc. and defrost.

i have the same excat problem.... well mine only opccurs once in a while....
i believe i narrowed it doen to something having to do with the vaccum lines.... but thats as far as i got.....
any suggestions would be appreciated, since it takes forever for me to defrost my window, and this i accopmlish by, shutting all the normal vents, put the fan on full throtle, and turn the temp to hot, there hapens to be enough air that squeezes by to get to the defroster...

Should I look for a vacuum line or what. I can reach under the dash and move the damper by hand but it will not stay in position. I really do not have the time to take it to the reamer, i mean dealer.

Thanks to anybody for help.

check your vac lines in your engine bay, my primary line going to my bulk head for the HVAC system broke once b4, and non of the blend doors worked

depends on the engine, on the 2.4 its on the front right(driver's) side of the TB, and goes back along the right sie of the engine to go into the bulkhead(firewall)

not too sure on the 2200,2.2, ill have to look at my mom's

i love having access to the 2.4 as well as the 2200

ok here's the quick and dirty

look under the hood, look on the left(passenger) side of your BRAKE master cylinder, you will see a black/gray hard vac line, right there you will see a rubber coupler, check that, from there it run behind your master cylinder, right, and back into your firewall. from your master cylinder it also goes under the blck metal cover and joins with a wiring harness, where i would assume it goes to your TB. i can't see any furthur up the line without tearing into it.
