tried searching..produced no results

i can never seem to search what i'm looking for. here's my dilema, have over 100k miles and went to change my spark plugs (which i didn't accomplish, cause they seemed really tight and i didn't want to break 'em)..anywho, when i removed the socket from the plug i noticed there was oil all over it. looked down and saw oil around the plugs, so obviously oil is leaking somewhere, somehow. my question.....what's causing it, and is it an easy fix i can do myself??

thanks in advance for any and all help

you should fill at your reg a little more so atleast we know what kind of car you have. it could be caused by a bad valve cover gasket

This is bad, I'm mean really bad. Oil on the spark plugs means it is getting into the combustion chamber somehow. Well there is three rings on the piston, a compression another compression and a oil ring. If the rings go bad oil goes past them and into the combustion chamber.
Also bad valves guides or seals can cause oil on the plugs.

oops....totally forgot about finishing the reg, sorry. it's a 99 cavalier. really bad? i was afraid of that

having never tinkered with the internals of an engine....are valves, pistons, and rings something i can do if i read up on the subject? or would i be better off taking it to a shop?

ok, let me go finish the reg.

^^^Since he didn't even take the plugs out, you cannot assume he has ring problems.

Coolgrafix....It is possible that your valve cover gasket is leaking. Check to see if you see an oil path running down the side of the motor into where the spark plugs are. The gasket should not be difficult to change. Hopefully, that is your only problem. Does the car run fine? If so, maybe the gasket leak is all that you have. Good Luck!!

if it is the 2200 that i assume it is then it is incredibly easy to change your valve cover gasket, more than likely that is it as stated above. also a good time to paint it while it's off, i believe the gasket is a recockulous $26 bucks at autozone
