fuel pump cost

I was wondering if any one can give me a rough estimate on how much it will cost to have the fuel pump replaced in a 2004 sunfire. I just did the fuel filter and now it seems to be making a small humming sound and do not want to be caught financially when it does go and i have to have some one fix it.

Thanks very much

Josh

is that for parts and labor? I thought the pump alone was almost 300.

Mine recently went out, cost brand new from the dealer was about $500CDN not incl install. It can't be purchased seperatly (it comes with the sending unit) unless you purchase an aftermarket pump from Walbro or somethin.....but that requires some modification.

I spent $150 for my fuel pump with the sending unit---Auto wreaker, but I got lifetime warranty

Installation isn't that hard, if your some what mechanically inclined you should be fine...

Well Josh, Before you get into spending alot of cash, I would get the fuel pump PSI test done first, That will give you definite direction for sure. Most cases fuel pumps last for about 5-7 years. Sometimes what happens the rubber gasket that goes around the sending unit & attaches to the fuel, The motor from the fuel pump causes it to make a humming sound. From my exp. I will do a pressure test done first.

Fuel pump : $250-$300 plus taxes

Labour: usaually $150 - $200 (depending on if fuel lines are in good condition or break)

Good Luck

i think autozone has the pump for about $230 (thats for a 2000) and labor is about 1.5 hours usually about $70 an hour. I just had this done on my car cost me $350 parts and labor. Definatly do the pressure test. If I recall 46-48psi is ok, double check that though and dont quote me on that
