I just bought this car two weeks ago...
My Cavalier has 35,000 original kms on it and no accidents or odometer rollbacks..Carfax verified. The other day I went to get its first oil change(synthetic)....and had my local Canadian Tire do it. Upon paying and leaving I subsequently noticed that the check engine light had come on. It has never come on before....
I took the car back and demanded that they scan the codes and what not for free......they complied with the demand and reinspected the car and came back with these codes
P0335 Crankshaft Position [CKP] Sensor A Circuit
P1336 Crankshaft Position [CKP] System Variation Not Learned
WTF are these?? Even the mechanics were scratching there heads because THE CAR RUNS PERFECT. Nothing any different than before. Idles/starts/accelerates perfect. But these codes simply wont clear. They clear them and they IMMEDIATLEY come back.
The sensors are all plugged in....and the mechanics said that if the crank sensor was acting up then it would barely run if at all.....
ANY IDEAS???

Just have the codes cleared and see if the pop up again. I've had CEL's pop up on me for no reason. I've cleared them and they never came back.

I would guess the Crankshaft Position Sensor circuit was pushed/bumped/knocked during the oil change and has resulted in an intermittant connection somewhere in the sensor circuit.
Just to counter the idea that [if the sensor was acting up it would barely run at all] the Crank Position Sensor in my '93 2.2 was changed to cure a fault. The car would accelerate and decelerate perfectly but when idling along neither pulling nor accelerating it would "missfire". With a new Sensor I have had no further problems over a few years.
