I was driving to work this morning and noticed about half way there, a light came on in the dash. I've never seen this light before, its a red square with waves on the bottom with an arrow pointing down. I then get stopped by the train, and a few seconds later noticed steam coming from my engine. I then turned around and headed home. When I got there, more steam came out and I opened the hood to the sound of water hitting something hot. I looked underneath and saw a lot of fluid running and hitting the exhaust pipe. I figured it was my radiator or coolant running out. The coolant resevoir is empty, and I did not hear a noise or anything. My Temp guauge didn't spike or anything it just stayed the same. Any ideas? I would of looked at it today, but college and work take up to much time during the week. Any ideas where to start looking or maybe some else had this issue?
Thanks,
It could be your water pump. Also check your oil to see if it looks milky at all. If so you could have a blown head gasket or head. Good luck on getting it fixed!

I just checked the oil and no milky/creamyness to it. my brother stopped by and he said its the possibility of the water pump. any ideas how to test it other than filling it up with water and seeing where it leaks?
Thanks,
Pressure test it...Thats really the only way.... More than likely it is the water pump. What kind of car do you have, and what year?
well, check to see if any hoses came loose.
That's a common occurence. Usually most water pumps leak slowly, they don't gush out water all over the place.
its a coupe. I'll check the hoses today when I get off work.
Thanks,
Josh

coupe or sedan, the engine bay is the same...stupid ass.
i'd check hoses before i do anything. then check your radiator cap. then get a pressure test.
GO PATS!!!
How are they the same? The water pump on a 2.4 is all the way in the back of the engine. On a 2.2 they are right up front on the left in plain view! If it is a sedan and the water pump is leaking it is very easy to spot.
please tell me you're kidding? i know the engines are different...but the 2.4 DOES NOT ONLY COME IN A COUPE!!! therefore, the question you should be asking is "2.2 or 2.4?" not coupe or sedan.
GO PATS!!!
Z24 or BASE u dumb @!#$ ur always cocky in all ur posts and ur car still sucks they have a 4 door Z24 and they have 4 doors with 2.2 visa versa
some people shouldn't be allowed to speak without a training course on the topic at hand.
GO PATS!!!
actually, which motor, 2002 had 3.... the ECOTEC and the Quad 4 had them in the rear (waterpump) and the 2200 had it on the side IIRC.. I would check the coolant hoses personally or the reservoir.
