I have just acquired a 89 olds cutlass ciera with the 2.8L with the auto tranny and did a tune up on the vehicle and the speedo bounces driving down the road and even worse on the back country roads. I am not throwing any error codes.
anyone have any ideas?
thanks in advance
Jeff
I forgot to say that i am not throwing any engine codes.
is it digital or needle? if its a needle then its the spring inside the cable (i think thats where its at) but theres a spring somewhere thats about shot. it will get worse everyday untill it finaly snaps and falls down.

If it's a needlle type speedo cable disconnect it and use some white lithium grease put,it inside the cable around the metal needle it will stop the bouncing.Napa carries this white lithium in a small container thats similar to grease for wheel bearings but,is for electrical components. If its a digital gauge u prolly need to replace the switch at the transmission with a new one,or u may have poor contact, clean the connection and try that.Simle as that.
alot of the time the speedo's bouncing liek that are from the speedo ring in the trans, they crack and it confuses the tach, not sure if it actually has that kind of setup but if it does more then likely thats your problem
my car has an electronic feed, no cable at all.
what spring are you talking about?
