NO Headlights!!!!
Wednesday, November 02, 2005 8:22 PM
My Headlights are not working at all. The foglights and the parking lights all work fine. I have checked the bulbs and the fuse and it is not either. The day time running lights work as well. Does anyone have any idea???

More than likely it's the headlight switch itself. This is nothing new with any J with the switch biting the dust.Typically u will have ur daytimes, park lights etc but no normal low or high beam headlights. To correct it u have to replace the switch itself.Sucks I know but, anyone who replies will tell u the same story.U can buy a new one or go to ur local salvage yard and get one a little cheaper, but who knows how long a used one will last umm I don't.

How could I trouble shoot it to find out for sure it is the switch? I would hate to replace it and have it be something else. Also how hard is it to replace the switch???

As for replacing the switch I do not know. This problem has been a issue for j owners for like ever.As for trouble shooting u would be wasting ur time,if u jiggle the switch ur lights may come on or may not just depends on how bad the electrical contacts are worn.U may want to do a search in maintenance on old issues with headlight switches I know there are MANY.Most pep just buy used ones at junk yards only to see them die shortly there after.I would check pricing b4 buying a new one and may b a search will help with the install delima since I am not fluent with the 3rd gen stuff rite off.

Well, I just replaced my switch. The total for a new switch was about $63 including tax. The switch was pretty easy to replace and took me a little under an hour to replace.

Thanks for everyones help, It is nice to be able to see when driving at night again.

It took you an hour to replace it? I've been having the same problem with my J now and it took me an hour to get it out and tear it apart and figure out what is what.

Testing a switch takes like two seconds. Use a 10 gauge jumper wire in place of the switch. Turn the headlights to the ON position, do they light up, if so bad switch, if not then relay, wiring, power and ground before the splice, @!#$ lots of stuff.
