Just a quick question, what oil have you guys has the best luck with the winter season coming up. Im from the Buffalo, NY area and I want my cavy to run the best it can. Thanks!!!
Check on the side of the oil bottle it should tell you what temps it can go down to. I know it gets a little chilly up there and if standard 5 w20 isn't good enough try synthetic oil as it has a much lower freezing point.
Hope this helps

try to stay away from 10w30 its only ment for as cold as zero degree F so if it gets colder then that (and i bet it does in buffalo), 5w30 is good for -20 F or something to that effect. I'm in NYC and most of the time i can get away with 10w30 but i usualy run 5w30 anyway, im sure 5w20 will work fine too. or if you really want someting for arctic temps go with 0w30 or 0w20. like it was said before it says on the bottle what temps its good for if it doesnt the mnufacturers web site should say. In reallity even 10w30 will work even in colder then zero temps but youll wear and tear the engine a lot more before it warms up then you would with something ment for colder temps. Oils are mostly personal prefrence really, unless you are using corn oil or someting meant for arizona heat you should be ok as long as it has a W in it but too thick of an oil will hurt you in milage and stuff not to mention it will turn to sludge when cold and take forever to turn back to oil while your engine is wearing itself out from lack of oil.
get a block heater lol
i live in Pa, and i use 20W50 year round (i use it cuz when the engine was rebuilt, it was broken in on 14W40 motocraft diesel oil, and if i use n e thing lower, the timing chain chatters) also i've never had a problem with 20-50, oils cleaner when i cahnge it then lower grades that i've used
n e one selling a block heater for our cars? I'm a fireman and when i go on calls, i dont like firing up my car in the winter and just running the balls off it, my cars goes "OUCH U @!#$, THAT HURTS!!" if i do
LOL!! Im a paramedic so I know all about the cold nights and starting my baby up and running bawls out to the hall. I think when I change my oil next week I will go to the 20W50. Thanks for the help!

Ditto since my last oil change..
20W50 will be really hard on your engine in cold temperature. Up here with 5W30 you can hear everything knocking in the engine so 20W50 will probably won't even turn in cold weather.
Btw, 20°F is hot, -35°F is cold. Usually it's -20°F here and go down to -35°F at night.
