I recently heard about putting nitrogen to fill the tires instead of air for better gas mileage. Any input would be great. Thanks!!!!
Doesn't do squat for mileage what it does is when a tire goes over the ground it heats up and it heats up the air inside it the air then can expand altering the tire presure by as much as even 10psi in extreme cases. Nitrogen resists expanding under high temp and loads so it maintains a more constant tire presure.
Hope that helps you.

Just a smart tip I check my tire pressure once a week with the temps changing so much it does affect ur psi based on temps.Just use normal air and check weekly for the best results and mpg issue.best time to check is while the tires are cold prior to driving to get a good accurate reading since heat changes the actual true reading bc of the rubbers elasticity.Hope this all makes sense.
Nitrogen don't do much for mileage except for the pressure changes as stated above
one advantage to using nitrogen over O2 is that it's
supposed to be better for the rubber and protect the insides of the tire better. this is only useful when doing it with new tires, doing it on tire previously filled with O2 aren't really helped by this
Isn't nitrogen flammable?

not exactly, ita an oxygenator. it helps atomize, as well as makes air dense due to sudden trmp drop
Thanks for the input. Since I have my all season tires on now. I'll wait for the spring to put the nitrogen in my autocross tires.
Its used in F-16's because it doesnt expand at high altitudes, dunno if that helps much... (F-16 CrewChief here)
nitrogen atoms are bigger than 02 atoms.
Remember hearing that air can leak through the alluminum in non-clearcoated rims? Its true. The nitrogen won't go through the pourous alluminup, therefore staying inflated.

Stock... and loving every minute of it.
What happens if you blow a tire while inflated with Nitrogen?? Won't that just explode insanely?
No. It just goes flat. Nitrogen is not explosive any more then air is.

something like 74% of the air your breathe is nitrogen, and last time I remember lighting a match I lived to tell the tail so it is safe.
Although you won't see a mileage difference, and nowhere near enough compared to the cost your going to pay for pure nitrogen.
and 10psi is easy if your autocrossing, with a friend of mine at the Subaru Challenge in Atlanta last year we released 20psi out of our tires over the course of the event using R-comps.

LOL, but you know you'd laugh if you saw someone light match and just explode out of no where, LOL
Nitrogen is used by race car drivers. And also with a tire filled with air when the temp drops 3 degrees its equal to a loss of 1 psi.

Why can't all threads be something like this? I was thinking clicking on this thread "People are gonna post things like----->" "Don't be an idiot" "That's stupid go kill yourself" Instead it turned out alright. Guess the org isn't always full of @!#$s.
