Hi I have a 97 sunfire gt.My car has been acting funny of late but I can figure it out.Sometimes when Iam at a stop when I go to take off when I hit the gas the car boggs down then a take my foot off the gas and it goes back to normal.Then it just does that for like a minute but goes normal and runs find.But yesterday it stalled out at a stop and I can't get it to turn over I tried for a half hour so I called a tow truck and it towed it to my house.Then that nite when I got home I got in it and it start right up and sounds fine.Doesn't anyone know what this could be so I know what to get fixed so I don't just fixes thing that don't need to be/Please let me know thanks

When you say it won't turn over, do you mean it just won't start or won't crank at all? If it won't crank then it could be your starter cable/battery cables. The bogging problem could be a number of things...one of which could be the catalytic converter.

It crank find the battery is full no problem there.My dad said it could be the catalytic converter to but is there anyway to test that to make sure.

Any muffler shop can test your converter in just a few minutes.

Do you know what the cost on that would be around

I just called a local muffler shop & they check them for free. They drill a small hole in front of the converter & hook up a pressure guage (they fix the hole of course). If the pressure is too high the converter is plugged. The cost of converters varies widely depending on the vehicle so call a few in your area. Good luck!

When was the last fuel filter change?

Could be a plugged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. If it was the cat plugged, it usually will run fine up to a certain rpm. When mine plugged up, it would not rev past 3000 rpm.

I had one that a chunk had broken loose & was flopping around in there. Hit a bump, plugs the hole...hit another unplugs it. Took forever to figure that one out!
