Its smashed!

Yeah, a state trooper took out my daughter's 99 Cavy, need some help from the experts. What I'm needing are front left spindle, lower A-arm, strut assembly, hood, steering rack, and fender. What years will interchange? I have a local U-Pull-It, good stuff at nice prices. Thanks for all the help.

Doesn't the trooper have insurence? Why should you have to do anything I would think the state would fix it for you. Hey they may even settle out of court and you get a whole new car.

BTW is she ok? the car can always be fixed or replaced kids aren't as easily repaired or replaced.

but ya, why isnt the trooper or the state paying for it. there should be no reason you would have to fix anything, especially if the trooper was on duty

(that is if she has a valid drivers lisence and insurance ) hope she wasnt hurt

what did your daughter do? did she started a high speed chase with the state trooper? because she did then the state trooper had rights to hit her car and if you even try to win it in court i am pretty sure you will lose and the court probley isnt going fix the car or even buy a new car sorry.

Kinda of a long story, bottom line is trooper was in wrong lane going in the same direction passing a bunch of vehicles, lights but no siren, my daughter made a left-hand turn and he got the front wheel. Shes okay, lucky. No citations, but the accident report says she didn't yield to an emergency vehicle, even though she had an Escalade behind her and he came over a knoll at about 50 mph. My insurance co. won't help, because I didn't have collision coverage, only liability, so I'm on my own fighting the State of PA, which I am finding out is a losing battle.

bummer...the state always finds a way to weasel out of responsibilities. you can't yeild to an emergency vehicle if you don't know that its responding to an emergency. does that mean i need to pull over and slow down every time i see a cop? without sirens but speeding? driving at normal speed? driving slower than me? stopped?

thats stupid.

at least your daughter is ok though...

In Md if the emergency vehicle doesn't have his emergecy lights on then hes just like a regular car. Were the emergency lights on?

Oh and I'm glad to hear shes o.k.

if by knoll, you mean hill, the cop should have had the siren on to alert the oncoming cars on the other side. Not only that, what the heck was the cop doing going in the wrong lane at 50mph? The chances of everyone getting out of his way at that speed are slim at best, especially at what is seeming to be a slightly busy city street with a hill somewhere along the path...

You could attempt the defense "I was attempting to yield to the emergency vehicle by going left to avoid a head on collision since he was in my lane" or something to that effect

Thanks for all the advise and kind words. As a newbie on this board, it seems as though folks are very polite and informed. I have visited frequently, as I own 2 Cavys that my daughters drive. Now the big question, how do I identify the correct years in the junkyards? I know by the VIN, but what letters/numbers mean what? Thanks for everyone's help.

I'd say most people here try to help as best they can. There are a few wise guys but you can ignore them. Anyway if the cop was cresting a hill he should have known better then to be in the on comeing traffics lanes. I'd deff get a lawer if they didn't ticket her it becasue the cop was at fault.

From vinguard.com

10th character- Identifies the model year. For example: 1988(J), 1989(K), 1990(L), 1991(M), 1992(N), 1993(P), 1994(R), 1995(S), 1996(T),
1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y)------2001(1), 2002(2), 2003(3)

umm, actually in the state of Pa (im forced to live in this wrethced state as well) i believe if a cop is going down the highway, responding to an emergency, and is near traffic, if they dont have sirens on its their fault for an accident, u cant hear lights, and u dont have eyes in the back of your head, and those of us who aren;t paranoid don check their mirror every 5 seconds....I HATE THIS STATE!!
Not to mention PSP hates teenage drivers...

btw, everything mechnical i know is interchangable on cavs and sunfires from 95-99, same with body parts on cav
